Also known as the Church of the Hundred Doors, it is one of the most important early Christian complexes in Greece. Admire its stone architecture and the details that tell centuries of religious history.

A small museum filled with artifacts that illustrate the island’s long history, from the Neolithic age to the Roman era. Among the most notable pieces are sculptures and evidence of ancient Paros.

The remains of the medieval castle are integrated into the fabric of the old town and reuse elements from ancient buildings. Stroll through the surrounding alleys to take in the layered charm of the island’s capital.

The Venetian harbor is the scenic heart of Naoussa, with fishing boats, white houses, and tables overlooking the water. It is especially captivating at sunset, when the village comes alive.

This beach is famous for its wind-smoothed granite rocks, which form small coves and natural pools. Its clear waters make it ideal for a swim in the bay of Naoussa.

Perched inland, is a traditional village of white houses, flower-lined alleys, and views over the hills. The church of Agia Triada and the peaceful atmosphere make it a pleasant alternative to the coast.

BEFORE YOU GO

A well-planned trip.

Getting around

KTEL buses connect Parikia, Naoussa, and the main beach areas, but in summer the services run more frequently than in the off-season. Check updated timetables and stops, especially for the return trip in the evening. To explore beaches and villages that are less well served, you can rent a car or a scooter; in high season it’s best to book ahead. Taxis are available, but they can be scarce during the busiest periods. If you arrive by ferry, the main port is in Parikia.

When to go

May, June, and September are excellent months to visit Paros: the weather is pleasant and, compared with July and August, beaches and accommodations are generally less crowded. Summer is ideal for the sea and evening life, but it also coincides with peak season and can be windy because of the meltemi. In spring and autumn the island is quieter, although some services may have reduced hours.

Where to eat

In Parikia and Naoussa you’ll find plenty of tavernas, while in the inland villages you can stop at smaller, more intimate places to try traditional cuisine. Look for fish and seafood, local cheeses such as xinomizithra, and Greek dishes based on vegetables, legumes, and meat. In summer, book dinner at the most popular restaurants in advance, especially along the waterfront in Naoussa. For a simple meal, try the bakeries and village tavernas too.

Quick tips

  1. In high season, book accommodation, rental cars, and ferries well in advance, especially on weekends.
  2. The meltemi can make the sea rough and affect crossings: check the company’s updates before you set off.
  3. Bring comfortable shoes for walking through the paved alleys and a hat for the hottest hours.
  4. Check the last bus times if you plan to dine outside the place where you’re staying.
