Guide to Paro
PARO · ITINERARY

Paros (Paros, South Aegean, Greece) in 3 days – Complete Itinerary

3 days / 2 nights · History, villages, beaches, landscapes

The itinerary begins in Parikia, with the main monuments and the historic center, and dedicates the second day to the northern coast between Naoussa, Kolymbithres, and Paros Park. The third day heads inland, among the ancient marble quarries and Lefkes, to discover a quieter side of the island. The sequence limits back-and-forth travel: for areas outside the towns, seasonal buses, taxis, or a rental car are useful. The expenses and times indicated are approximate.

Day 1 – Parikia: monuments and alleys in the capital

10:00–21:00 Light walks

Getting your bearings in Parikia and visiting its main historic sites without straying far from the port.

10:00

Arrival and a walk to the port

Use the port and waterfront as your reference point: the old town can be reached on foot in just a few minutes. If you have luggage, leave it at your accommodation or in a storage facility before you start; a taxi ride from the port area can cost roughly 8–15 € depending on distance and season.

In high season, allow some extra time for disembarkation and traffic.

10:45

Panagia Ekatontapiliani

Set aside about 45–60 minutes for this important religious complex, exploring the church, the courtyard, and architectural features from different eras. Entry to the church is generally free; any museum spaces or special visits may have separate fees and seasonal opening hours.

Enter with respectful attire and check the celebration times on site.

12:00

Archaeological Museum of Paros

This small museum lets you delve into the island’s history through artifacts and sculptures, with a visit of about 45–60 minutes. Expect to pay roughly 3–6 € for admission, if open; days and hours can change, especially outside the high season.

Check opening times before you go and keep some cash on hand.

13:15

Lunch in central Parikia

Choose a taverna between the waterfront and the inner lanes, so you stay close to the afternoon sights. For a main dish and a drink, expect around 15–25 € per person; salad, fish, and daily specials can change the total.

The streets just behind the port are often less affected by ferry traffic.

15:00

Alleys and Frankish Castle

Walk through the maze of alleys in the old town to the Frankish Castle, built into the surrounding houses and structures. The visit is short and the area is outdoors; take your time observing the masonry, which reuses architectural elements from earlier periods. Free admission.

Wear shoes with grippy soles: some streets are paved with stone and sloped.

17:00

Free time among shops and the seafront

Head back toward the port through the town’s shopping streets, with a stop for a coffee or ice cream. Set aside about €5–10 for a drink; it’s also a good time to buy water and small supplies for the next day.

The hottest hours are ideal for a break in the shade, especially in the height of summer.

19:30

Dinner in Parikia

End the day in the town center or along the seafront, choosing a taverna serving local cuisine. A simple dinner can cost roughly €20–35 per person, excluding or including drinks depending on the venue. Booking ahead is useful on July and August evenings.

If you’re staying outside the center, check the last bus or arrange your taxi back in advance.

Day 2 – Naoussa and the northern coast

09:00–20:30 Sightseeing and a beach break

Explore Naoussa harbor and the northern beaches, leaving time for the coastal paths too.

09:00

Transfer to Naoussa

From Parikia, reach Naoussa by KTEL bus when service is running, or by taxi or car: the road journey usually takes about 20–30 minutes. A bus ticket costs roughly €2–4 each way; check times and frequency, as they change with the season.

In high season, leave early to avoid waiting and to find a seat on the bus more easily.

09:45

Walk around Naoussa Harbor

Start at the harbor and wander through the village’s narrow lanes before they fill with visitors. Allow about an hour to take in the boats, whitewashed houses, and small squares; the walk is free.

Morning light is ideal for photographing the harbor.

10:45

Venetian Castle of Naoussa

Walk to the remains of the Venetian fortification at the harbor entrance, noting how the structure fits into the seascape. The stop is short and free; watch your step on uneven surfaces and against waves crashing on the rocks.

Do not climb onto wet or exposed sections: the sea can be rough even under clear skies.

11:30

Transfer to Paros Park

Reach the park by taxi or car in about 15–25 minutes; in summer there may be local or sea connections, but they should not be taken for granted. For a taxi, expect roughly 15–25 € for the ride, to be confirmed locally; access to the trails is free.

Bring water: facilities in the park are limited and shade can be scarce.

12:00

Scenic trails of Paros Park

Choose a short route suitable for hot weather, with views of the sea and rocky coastline; allow 60–90 minutes for the round trip, including stops. The area is free, but do not improvise detours: the ground can be stony and sun-exposed.

A hat, sunscreen, and closed-toe shoes are especially useful.

13:45

Lunch and break in Monastiri

Stop in the Monastiri area for a light lunch and a break before continuing to Kolymbithres. A simple meal can cost about 15–25 € per person; check which kiosks or venues are actually open during your travel period.

In the low season, bring a snack, as options may be limited.

15:30

Kolymbithres Beach Swim

Reach Kolymbithres by taxi or car in about 10–15 minutes; in summer, taxi-boats may also be available from Naoussa, with an indicative fare of 5–10 € per trip. The coves are known for their wind-smoothed rocks: beach access is free, while loungers and an umbrella may cost about 20–40 € for a pair.

The smaller coves fill up early: give yourself time to look for a quiet spot.

18:30

Return and dinner in Naoussa

Head back to Naoussa and choose a taverna or a restaurant on the harbor. Budget about 20–40 € per person for dinner; waterfront spots can be more expensive. After dinner, return to Parikia by the last available bus or by taxi.

Check the return before heading out to the coast: evening services are not always frequent.

Day 3 – Marathi and the village of Lefkes

09:00–18:30 Quiet exploration

Discover the historic quarries and the inland architecture, with an optional walk along a stretch of the old path.

09:00

Departure from Parikia to Marathi

For this day, it’s practical to rent a car or scooter, or arrange a taxi: the quarries are not served as frequently as the main centers. The trip from Parikia takes about 15–20 minutes; a taxi may cost an estimated 15–25 € per trip, to be confirmed.

On a scooter, wear a helmet and check the road surface before tackling side roads.

09:30

Marathi Marble Quarries

Spend about 45–60 minutes in the area of the ancient marble quarries, tied to the fame of Parian marble in antiquity. Entry to the area is generally free; stay on accessible paths and do not enter unmarked cavities or tunnels, which can be dangerous.

It’s a largely unshaded site: bring water and don’t count on any services on site.

10:45

Transfer to Lefkes

Continue toward Lefkes, inland, with about 15–20 minutes of driving. If you are traveling by taxi, agree in advance on the waiting time or pick-up point: finding an available ride directly in the village can take time.

Park in the designated areas at the edge of the center and continue on foot.

11:15

Walk through the center of Lefkes

Explore the village’s cobbled streets and small squares on foot, lingering by the Cycladic houses and the views toward the hills. Allow about an hour for a relaxed visit; access to the center is free and the climbs can be steep.

Comfortable shoes are preferable to flat sandals.

12:15

Church of Agia Triada

Enter the church if it is open and quietly visit the accessible areas, taking in the architecture and its central position in the village. The visit does not usually require a ticket, but it may be interrupted during religious services.

Check on site for any access signs and dress respectfully.

13:00

Lunch in Lefkes

Choose a village taverna for a meal featuring local produce and a break during the hottest hours. Expect around 15–25 € per person, depending on dishes and drinks; in busier months, it is advisable to book ahead or arrive early.

Ask which dishes are prepared that day.

14:30

Section of the ancient Byzantine road

If the temperature and conditions allow, walk a short stretch of the historic road from Lefkes toward Prodromos and then retrace your steps: even a 30–60 minute walk lets you appreciate the rural landscape. The route is free, but in some sections it is uneven and exposed to the sun.

Avoid the hottest hours in summer; completing the full route takes more time and requires arranging your return.

16:00

Return and end of the trip

Drive back to Parikia by car or with the arranged transfer, allowing about 20–30 minutes on the road. If you have an evening ferry, add extra time for traffic and returning the vehicle; any fuel or taxi costs vary depending on the route.

For a ferry departure, check the company’s updated schedules and arrive at the port early.

Estimated budget

Accommodation for 2 nights, double room in a mid-range property€180–420 per room
Meals and drinks for 3 days€105–210 per person
Local transport by bus and a few taxi rides€25–80 per person
Rental car for one day, fuel excluded€45–100
Entrance fees and activities€0–20 per person
Sun loungers and umbrella, if chosen€20–40 per couple

The currency is the euro (€), so for those leaving from Italy there is no need to exchange money. All amounts are estimates per person or per unit as specified, not verified prices: they may change depending on the season, availability, type of accommodation, and services chosen; flights and ferries are not included.

Practical tips

  • Check the updated KTEL bus schedules: frequencies and connections to beaches and villages vary considerably between high and low season.
  • Book accommodation in advance and, if needed, a car for July and August; during peak hours parking near the towns may be limited.
  • Bring water, sunscreen, and shoes suitable for rocky trails, especially in Paros Park and along the Byzantine Road.
  • Check the opening hours of museums, churches, and services before your visit: opening times may be seasonal or change during religious services.
