Day 1 – Parikia between archaeology, the Kastro and the sea

10:00–21:00 Easy walks

Discover Parikia’s main historic sights and enjoy a beach break without leaving the center.

10:00

Orientation to Parikia port

Start at the port, the arrival point for ferries and a useful reference for finding your way around the center. Set aside about 20 minutes for a stroll along the waterfront and watch the boats coming and going; admission is free. From here, you can reach Panagia Ekatontapiliani on foot in about 5–10 minutes.

If you are arriving by ferry, check the return times and keep in mind that the port can be busy at peak hours.

10:30

Panagia Ekatontapiliani

Visit the famous Byzantine church, also known as the Church of the Hundred Doors, and admire the interior spaces, chapels, and architectural details of the complex. Allow 45–60 minutes; entry is generally free, while any donations are optional. Dress respectfully and check the service times on site.

During celebrations, some areas may be temporarily less accessible.

11:30

Paros Archaeological Museum

Reach the museum with a short walk and spend about an hour exploring the collections of artifacts found on the island, including sculptures, inscriptions, and ancient objects. Tickets may cost around 3–6 EUR, with possible discounts or seasonal variations. Check the updated opening hours before your visit, as museums may close in the afternoon or on certain days.

The museum visit pairs nicely with the church, which is nearby.

13:00

Lunch in the center of Parikia

Stop at a taverna or a casual spot between the town center and the port: try a dish of the day, Greek salad, or a seafood specialty. Budget about 60–75 minutes and 12–25 EUR per person for a simple or mid-range meal, drinks not included. Ask whether the fish is sold by weight and check the price before ordering.

For a quicker lunch, sandwiches and takeaway dishes can be found around the port.

14:30

Frankish Castle and Kastro

Stroll through the historic Kastro district to the remains of the Frankish castle, woven among the houses and narrow lanes of the old town. The visit takes about 45 minutes and is free; notice how ancient architectural elements have been reused in the village buildings. The route is on foot and includes uneven paving.

Wear shoes with sturdy soles: some alleys are narrow and worn smooth.

15:30

Walk through the lanes and coffee break

Set aside an hour to explore the whitewashed lanes of the center at an unhurried pace, among courtyards, small shops, and sea views. A stop for coffee or a cold drink costs roughly 3–7 EUR. Keep a relaxed pace and allow time to head back toward the coast.

The middle of the day can be very hot: look for shaded stretches and bring water.

17:00

Relax at Livadia Beach

Reach Livadia Beach with a walk of about 15–20 minutes from the center, following the seafront north; alternatively, you can take a local taxi if available. The beach is public and you can stay for about an hour and a half; sun loungers and umbrellas, when offered, have indicative rates of 10–25 EUR for a set, varying by season. The sea and facilities can change a lot depending on the time of year.

Bring a swimsuit and towel even if you do not plan to stay long: the beach is easy to reach from the center.

19:30

Return and dinner on the waterfront

Head back toward the port with a walk of about 15–20 minutes and choose a table on the waterfront or on the inner streets. For dinner with a main course and a drink, budget roughly 18–35 EUR per person; for a seafood dinner, the bill may be higher. End the day with a short stroll along the port, leaving enough time if you need to board a boat.

In high season, it is advisable to book dinner and check ferry times in advance.

Estimated budget

Meals and drinks for the day33–67 EUR per person
Admission tickets and fees for places visited3–10 EUR per person
Local transport, if needed0–15 EUR per person
Optional sun loungers and umbrella0–25 EUR

Greece uses the euro (EUR), so no exchange is necessary for those paying in euros. The figures are indicative estimates per person, do not include ferries or overnight stays, and may vary depending on season, availability, and personal choices.

Practical tips

  • Check the museum and church opening hours in advance: opening times and fees may change, especially out of season.
  • Bring water, sunscreen, and comfortable shoes; the paving in the lanes of the Kastro can be uneven.
  • In summer, book dinner and allow extra time for ferry-related transfers.
  • For the beach, check on site whether sun loungers and umbrellas are available, and keep in mind that services may be seasonal.
