Agia Paraskevi Monastery
Founded in the 15th century, it stands on a rocky spur above the gorge, just beyond the village of Monodendri. The trail leads to memorable views over the walls of Vikos.
Papingo natural pools
These basins, carved into the limestone by the Rogovo stream, form a succession of small natural pools. They are especially striking when the water is clear and the light brings out the shapes of the rock.
Plakidas Bridge (Kalogeriko Bridge)
Near Kipoi, this elegant three-arch stone bridge is one of the most photographed in Zagori. Its graceful shape stands out among the vegetation and the streambed.
Beloi viewpoint
Reachable on foot from the village of Vradeto, Beloi offers a dizzying view over Vikos Gorge and its rocky cliffs. The route is short, but it crosses a mountain landscape of great beauty.
A small traditional village at the foot of the Astraka towers, with stone houses, cobbled alleys, and sweeping views of the mountains. It is also an ideal starting point for hikes in the area.

Getting around
To explore the villages of Zagori and reach the trails, a car is the most practical option: the roads are scenic but narrow and winding. Public transport connections are limited, so check schedules and availability in advance if you're traveling without a car. In historic hamlets such as Papigo and Monodendri, it's best to leave your vehicle in the designated parking areas and continue on foot. For hikes in the Vikos Gorge, plan your return as well: the trails do not always lead back to the starting point.
When to go
Spring and autumn are ideal for walking, with generally mild temperatures and especially beautiful scenery. Summer brings long days, but it can be hot on exposed routes; set out early and bring water. In winter, Zagori is enchanting, but snow and ice can make getting around difficult: check road conditions and the weather before you leave.
Where to eat
The village tavernas serve traditional Epirus cuisine: try the rustic savory pies, often filled with vegetables or cheese, and the slow-cooked meat dishes. In some places you can also find trout and other mountain specialties. Hours may vary depending on the season and day of the week, so it's worth checking in advance which places are open, especially outside the summer months.
