Day 1 – Monodendri and the Beloi panorama

09:00–19:00 Walks and moderate trekking

Discover Monodendri and reach the Beloi viewpoint with a hike from Vradeto.

09:00

Monodendri

Spend about 1.5–2 hours on the cobbled lanes, stone houses, and mountain views; from the village you can also look out toward Vikos Canyon without straying from the village route. From Ioannina, the drive usually takes about 40–50 minutes, but the roads are winding: consider a lunch break in the village before setting off again. A walk through the village is free; meals and drinks can range roughly from €10 to €25 per person.

For the night, choose Monodendri or the surrounding area; check availability and road conditions in advance.

13:30

Beloi Viewpoint

From Monodendri, drive to Vradeto, allowing about 30–40 minutes, and leave time to get your bearings before setting out on the trail. The route to the viewpoint is a round-trip hike: plan on about 1.5–2.5 hours in total, depending on pace and stops, to take in Vikos Canyon and the surrounding peaks from above. There is usually no ticket for the walk, but budget €0–€5 for any local expenses and bring water; before setting off, check trail conditions and the weather.

Sturdy shoes and a return trip in daylight: do not attempt the route in fog, rain, or thunderstorms.

Day 2 – Stone bridges and the lanes of Zagori

09:00–18:30 Quiet visits with short drives

Explore Kalogeriko Bridge and the villages of Kipoi and Dilofo, keeping the day focused in the central Zagori area.

09:00

Plakida Bridge (Kalogeriko)

Reach the bridge by car from the Monodendri area, allowing about 15–25 minutes, then spend 30–45 minutes visiting and taking photos from different angles. Kalogeriko is known for its three-arch design and its stone construction set into the streamside landscape; approach with care, especially if the ground is wet. The site is outdoors and there is no indicative ticket fee, though any transport costs are borne by the traveler.

Park only in permitted spaces and do not climb onto the fragile parts of the bridge.

10:30

Kipoi

From the bridge, reach Kipoi in a few minutes by car and set aside about 1–1.5 hours to wander through lanes, traditional houses, and rural views. It is a good stop for a coffee break or an early lunch: expect roughly €3–€8 for a light refreshment and €10–€25 for a meal, depending on your choice. Visiting the village normally does not require a ticket; respect the quiet of the residential streets.

Distances in the village are covered on foot over uneven paving.

13:30

Dilofo

From Kipoi, continue by car for about 10–15 minutes and leave the car in the marked spaces before entering the historic core. Allow 1.5–2 hours to walk among stone houses, arches, and cobbled lanes, with a stop for lunch or a drink: approximate budget €10–€25 for a meal and €3–€8 for a simple break. Access to the village is free; after your visit, head to Aristi, allowing about 35–50 minutes of driving for the second night.

Spending one night in Aristi makes the departure for Papingo the next day easier.

Day 3 – Aristi, Papingo and the Rogovo pools

09:00–18:00 Village visit and nature walk

Cross the western area of Zagori and end the visit among the natural pools of Rogovo.

09:00

Aristi

Spend about an hour walking through the village, taking in the stone houses, traditional facades, and quiet lanes; you can have breakfast or take a break before transfer. Aristi is a convenient base for planning the day: from here, you can reach Megalo Papingo in about 20–30 minutes by car, along a mountain road. Visiting the village is free; for breakfast or drinks, budget around €3–€10 per person.

Stock up on water and check road conditions before continuing.

10:30

Megalo Papingo

Park in the available spaces and visit the historic center on foot for about 1.5–2 hours, among cobbled lanes, stone architecture, and views of the surrounding peaks. Plan a lunch stop before reaching the pools, with an estimated cost of €12–€30 per person depending on the place and menu. Entry to the village is free; getting to the Kolymbithres from the village then requires a short walk, but the ground can be slippery.

During busier periods, allow extra time for parking.

14:00

Kolymbithres (Rogovo natural pools)

From the center of Megalo Papingo, reach the pools on foot in about 10–20 minutes, following the local path and checking conditions on site. Spend 1–2 hours observing the basins shaped by the water and, only if the level, temperature, and safety allow, stopping by the water’s edge; the water can be very cold and the rocks slippery. Access is generally free, with an estimated cost of €0–€5 for any local charges; check for any notices, rules, and accessibility before visiting.

Bring water shoes or non-slip footwear; avoid diving and swimming if there is current or unsafe conditions.

Practical tips

  • A car offers greater flexibility: drive carefully on mountain roads and allow extra time for bends, stops and parking.
  • For Beloi and the Rogovo pools, check the weather, ground conditions and local advisories; skip the route if rain, fog or high water make the hike unsafe.
  • Bring trekking shoes with good grip, water, sun protection and a warm layer: altitude and conditions can change quickly.
  • Before your visit, check official websites or with the operators for any tickets and updated information on accessibility and rules; the times listed are a suggested itinerary, not opening hours.
