Archaeological Site of Aliki
On a peninsula lapped by the sea, you’ll find the remains of ancient marble quarries and sanctuaries in a landscape of great charm. The coastal path offers splendid views over the two bays of Aliki.
This natural pool carved into the rock is one of the island's most famous wonders. The waves of the Aegean fill the basin, creating a spectacular spot for a swim on calm days.
Monastery of Archangel Michael
Perched on a cliff, the monastery offers a serene atmosphere and sweeping views of the sea. It is one of the most important pilgrimage sites on Thasos; respectful attire is required for the visit.

Getting around
To reach Thasos, take the ferry from Keramoti to Limenas, the shortest and most frequent crossing, or from Kavala to Skala Prinos. On the island, getting around is by bus, with more frequent services in high season but not always suited to visiting remote coves and villages. A rented car or scooter offers greater freedom; book ahead during the summer months. The coastal road connects the main towns, while inland roads are often winding and uphill. Drive carefully and check the ferry and bus timetables before setting off.
When to go
From May to June and from September to early October, you’ll find pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and good conditions for exploring the island. July and August are the hottest and liveliest months, ideal for the sea but also the busiest: it’s wise to book accommodation and the ferry in advance. In spring and autumn, some services and connections may be reduced.
Where to eat
In the coastal resorts, look for tavernas serving fish and seafood, while in the inland villages meat dishes and homemade recipes are common. Among the local specialties worth trying are the honey and olive oil. For a quieter meal, choose less busy times and ask which dishes are fresh or prepared that day.
