Parga Castle
The Venetian fortress stands high above the old town and offers splendid views over the harbor and the Ionian Sea. Walking among its bastions is a evocative way to trace the city's long history.
Nestled on the Ionian coast of Epirus, Parga wins you over with its picturesque harbor, brightly colored houses, and beaches framed by green hills. Between Venetian fortresses, tiny islets, and crystal-clear waters, it offers a perfect balance of history, relaxation, and Mediterranean scenery.

This small islet opposite the harbor is one of the most recognizable sights in Parga. It can be reached by swimming or boat and is home to a chapel and the remains of a fortress.
The town beach is just a few steps from the seafront and looks out onto Panagia Island. It’s a convenient spot for a swim without leaving the center.
Wide and washed by clear waters, Valtos stretches at the foot of the castle hill. It’s ideal for alternating beach relaxation with water sports and walks along the coast.
Built on the hills above Parga, near Anthousa, the castle offers panoramic views of the coast and the inland area. Its ruins tell the story of the period of Ottoman rule in the region.
In the inland area, the springs of the Acheron River are a striking destination for excursions and outdoor activities. Here the river flows between gorges, lush vegetation, and cold, transparent waters.
From a first stroll to a week of discoveries. A starting point to make your own.
An intense day discovering the colorful old town and its iconic Venetian fortress.
A three-day journey through crystal-clear beaches, ancient mythological legends and breathtaking views.
A full week to fully experience Parga, the nearby islands and the wild inland of northwestern Greece.
Parga’s town center is easy to explore on foot, but it is hilly and includes stairs and uphill stretches: comfortable shoes are recommended. In summer, traffic and parking availability can be difficult, so it’s best to leave your car in the designated parking areas on the outskirts of the center. To reach nearby beaches and towns, a car or scooter offers greater flexibility; in high season, bus connections are also available, so check locally. Boats also depart from the port for excursions to some of the area’s beaches and islands.
May, June and September are great months to enjoy the sea and the town center with pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds. July and August are the hottest and liveliest months, but also the busiest and generally the most expensive. In spring and early autumn, some activities and connections may have reduced hours.
In the center and along the waterfront, you’ll find tavernas and restaurants serving fish, seafood, grilled meats and traditional Greek dishes. It’s also worth trying Epirus specialties, such as rustic savory pies, often filled with cheese or vegetables. For a quieter and often cheaper meal, look for places on streets away from the port and ask which ingredients are in season.
