How to get around
To explore Notia Kerkyra, the southern part of Corfu, a car is the most convenient solution: it allows you to reach beaches and villages with greater flexibility. The side roads can be narrow and winding, so drive carefully and allow for longer travel times than indicated. Buses connect Corfu Town with various places in the south, but frequencies and timetables change with the season; check them before setting out. Taxis and rental vehicles are available, while for scooters and quads it is important to consider distances, road surface, and insurance coverage.
When to go
From May to June and from September to early October, the weather is generally pleasant and the resorts are less crowded than in the peak of summer. July and August are ideal for those looking for hot days and beach life, but they also bring more visitors and often higher prices. In spring and autumn, check the opening hours of accommodations, restaurants, and services, as they may be limited outside the season.
Where to eat
Look for the tavernas in the villages and coastal centers to sample Greek cuisine and Corfiot specialties such as sofrito, pastitsada, and bourdeto. Seaside venues often serve fish and seafood, but ask for the price and check whether the catch is fresh and local. For a casual meal, try salads, cheeses, and sharing plates too; in tourist areas it’s wise to book during high season.
