THE PLACES THAT TELL LEVADIA

Worth seeing, worth remembering.

All places on the map ↗

Krya Springs (Piges Kryas)

The Krya springs are the green heart of Levadia: the water feeds the Erkina River and flows past trees, walkways, and ancient mills. It is a pleasant area for strolling and stopping at the cafés along the waterway.

Levadia Castle (Kastro Livadeias)

The medieval castle stands on a hill above the Krya district and preserves parts of the fortifications that once dominated the city. From the hilltop, there are beautiful views over Levadia and the surrounding valley.

Oracle of Trophonius (Manteio Trofoniou)

This ancient sanctuary was linked to the cult of Trophonius and the consultation of the oracle, one of the best-known religious traditions of ancient Boeotia. The remains are located in the Krya area, beside the riverside landscape.

Krya Waterfall (Katarraktis Kryas)

The waterfall is one of the most photographed sights in the area: the water cascades between rocks and vegetation, close to the paths and small bridges of Krya. The flow can vary depending on the season.

Levadia Clock Tower (Pyrgos tou Roloiou Livadeias)

The tower is a landmark in the city center and draws attention with its panoramic position. An easy stop to combine with a walk through the central streets.

BEFORE YOU GO

A well-planned trip.

Getting around

Levadia’s center can easily be explored on foot, including the Krya springs and the narrow streets that lead up to the castle, where the route is steep and partly uneven. The railway station is located outside the center: check train times in advance and consider taking a taxi to reach your accommodation or the center. KTEL buses connect the city with other places in the region and with Athens, but frequencies and schedules can vary. To explore the surroundings, a car offers greater flexibility; in the center, it is useful to check parking options in advance.

When to go

Spring and autumn are ideal for strolling among the Krya springs and visiting the castle, with generally more pleasant temperatures. In summer, the days can be very hot, so it’s best to plan outdoor visits for the morning or late afternoon. Winter is quieter, but it’s a good idea to check the forecast before tackling the uphill paths.

Where to eat

In the center and near the Krya springs, you’ll find tavernas and eateries where you can try Greek dishes, grilled meats, and specialties from Boeotia. For a casual meal, look for tavernas frequented by locals and ask what the daily specials are. Opening hours can change with the season, so it’s advisable to check before heading to a restaurant.

Quick tips

  1. Wear comfortable shoes with good grip for the uphill trails to the castle.
  2. Check train and bus timetables before you set off: services can be limited.
  3. Bring water, especially in the hotter months and during walks in the middle of the day.
  4. If you have specific dietary requirements, ask the staff what ingredients are in the dishes.
