The day explores the historic heart of Levadia and its most distinctive attractions, from the medieval fortifications to the waters of Krya. The route continues on foot between the castle, the river landscape of the Erkyna, and the remains associated with the Oracle of Trophonius, keeping travel to a minimum. In the afternoon, there is time for the folklore museum, if open, and for a relaxed break along the river. Site fees and opening hours may vary: it’s worth checking before your visit, especially out of season.

Discover the main historical and natural highlights of Levadia while staying in the city center.
10:00
Visit to Levadia Castle
Reach the castle entrance on foot from the center: the uphill walk requires shoes with good grip and can be tiring in the heat. Set aside about 90 minutes for the walls and the viewpoints over the town and the valley; access to the ruins is generally free, but the ground is uneven and some areas may be temporarily closed.
Bring water and check access conditions in case of rain.
11:45
Descent to the Krya springs
Head down to the green Krya district along the paths and narrow streets leading to the springs, allowing about 20–30 minutes from the castle. Here, the clear water, vegetation, and old buildings linked to the mill system offer a pleasant contrast with the fortifications. The walk in the area is free.
The steps and stone sections can be slippery.
12:20
Walk along the Erkina
Follow the course of the Erkina past little bridges, shady trees, and views of the waterfalls and canals. It is an easy walk of about 40 minutes, best enjoyed at an unhurried pace; along the way you’ll find spots suitable for a photo stop and café or taverna tables. Walking along the river has no cost.
On summer days, the shadier areas fill up quickly.
13:00
Lunch in the Krya district
Stop at a taverna or café near the springs, choosing simple Greek dishes and local specialties. Allow roughly 12–22 € per person for a meal with a drink, depending on the place and the dishes. In high season, it’s a good idea to ask for a table as soon as you arrive.
Prices are approximate and may change depending on the menu.
14:30
Site of the Oracle of Trophonius
Spend about 30–45 minutes exploring the remains and historical context of the ancient sanctuary, associated with Trophonius and the city’s oracle tradition. The archaeological traces are integrated into the Krya area and are not always accompanied by detailed signs, so it may be helpful to read a short introduction before your visit. Access to the outdoor area is generally free.
Do not confuse the ancient site with a museum building: the remains are outdoors.
15:30
Folklore Museum of Levadia
If the museum is open, visit the collections dedicated to everyday life, crafts, and the region’s traditions. Allow about 45–60 minutes and budget for a possible ticket of around 2–5 €; opening hours may be limited or seasonal, so it’s best to check in advance. If you find it closed, use this time to wander slowly through the alleys and traditional houses of Krya.
Check whether it’s open on the same day, especially on holidays and in low season.
17:00
Coffee break and return to the center
Wrap up your visit to Krya with a stop at a café by the water, then walk back to the center in about 15–25 minutes. A coffee or soft drink costs roughly 3–6 €. The rest of the afternoon is ideal for a relaxed stroll and picking up a few local products.
If you’d rather not walk, consider taking a local taxi back.
19:00
Dinner in the center of Levadia
Choose a taverna in the center to sample Greek dishes and end the day without straying from the route. For a casual dinner, expect around 15–28 € per person, depending on wine, starters, and main courses. Making a reservation can be useful on weekends and during busy periods.
Check the kitchen opening hours: some places serve dinner later.
