One of the island’s best-known beaches, with pale sand and crystal-clear water. It’s an ideal spot for a swim and for enjoying Gavdos’ northern coastline.

One destination.
A thousand ways to live it.
South of Crete, Gavdos is a small, secluded island where the pace of life follows the sea and nature dominates the landscape. Between sandy beaches, trails, and open views over the Mediterranean, it offers an authentic experience far from the more crowded routes.
Worth seeing, worth remembering.
A long beach with a wild character, appreciated for its open scenery and peaceful atmosphere. The dunes and coastal vegetation also make for a scenic walk along the sea.
A secluded bay on the northern coast, reachable by a trail. Its pale rocks and clear sea make it a special destination for those seeking a quieter corner.
This beach lies at the southern tip of Gavdos, near the famous headland with three natural arches. The view over the open sea makes it one of the island’s most memorable stops.
A compact beach on the southeastern coast, close to the small settlement of Korfos. Its calm waters and simple landscape invite a relaxed pause.
The lighthouse, rebuilt after being damaged during World War II, offers a glimpse into the island’s maritime history. Its panoramic position is especially striking at sunset.

How to get around
Gavdos can be reached by ferry from southern Crete, with connections and frequencies that vary depending on the season and sea conditions: check timetables and availability before you set off. Public transport on the island is limited and may be seasonal, so find out about departures and ferry connections in advance. A car or scooter can be handy, but the roads are partly unpaved and rental options are limited. Some areas can be explored on foot, but the distances and the heat make it important to plan your getting around. Bring water and suitable shoes, especially if you plan to reach the more secluded beaches.
When to go
The most pleasant time to visit Gavdos is generally from May to June and from September to early October, when temperatures are mild and the island is less crowded. In the height of summer the weather is hot and dry, but visitor numbers rise, as does demand for ferries and accommodation. Outside the main season, connections and services may be reduced, and wind can affect crossings: check the forecast and updated schedules before you travel.
Where to eat
In Gavdos you’ll find small tavernas and eateries mainly in the inhabited areas and places frequented by visitors, but the choice and opening hours can vary greatly with the season. The cuisine is simple and often features Greek dishes, local ingredients and fresh catch when available. In summer it’s best to check opening hours in advance; in the quieter months some businesses may be closed. If you’re staying in a secluded area, plan your meals ahead and bring a few supplies with you.
Quick tips
- 01Check ferry times more than once: they can change and crossings are affected by sea conditions.
- 02Book your ferry and accommodation in advance for the high season, especially if you are traveling with a vehicle.
- 03Bring cash, water, sunscreen and a flashlight: services and shops are limited and some beaches are isolated.
- 04Respect the environment and local guidance, avoiding littering or lighting fires in natural areas.
Wake up in the right place.
