Day 1 – Arrival in Gavdos and a stop at Sarakiniko

08:30–18:00 Relaxed, with short transfers

Reach the island by sea and enjoy the northern coast without straying too far from the port.

08:30

Karave Port

Use Karave as your reference point for arrival and check on site the transfer options to Sarakiniko: the availability of buses, shuttles or taxis can change depending on the season. The road journey is short, but it’s wise to leave some time for waiting and for the return to the port; allow roughly 5–15 € per person for a transfer, if available. Plan your day around the ferry timetable and keep in mind that the price of the boat ticket depends on the route and the season.

Before boarding, check the official departure and return times and don’t leave your trip back to the port until the last minute.

10:30

Sarakiniko Beach

Reach Sarakiniko from the port with whatever transport is available and spend a few hours at the beach, alternating swimming, relaxing and walking along the shore. Bring water, sunscreen and whatever you need for your stay: facilities and shopping options can be limited or vary, so it’s best not to rely on them. For a simple meal or a drink, allow roughly 10–25 € per person; check the official website for any updated information on access or services before your visit.

Factor in the transfer time back and return to Karave with a comfortable buffer before the ferry departs.

Day 2 – The wild beaches of the northern coast

10:00–21:00 Easy walks, with stretches on sand

Discover two northern Gavdos beaches by mixing walking, swimming and scenic stops.

10:00

Agios Ioannis

Reach the beach from Karave by local bus or taxi, if available: the transfer can take about 30–45 minutes, but should be planned around ferry arrivals and the actual service schedule. Spend the morning by the sea and take in the landscape of dunes and junipers, staying on marked paths so as not to damage the vegetation. Access to the beach is free; allow roughly €5–15 for a local transfer, to be confirmed on site.

Bring water, a hat and sunscreen: shade and services may be limited. Check the outbound and return schedules with local operators.

14:00

Lavrakas Beach

From Agios Ioannis, continue on foot toward Lavrakas along the coast, allowing roughly 30–45 minutes and more if the sand is soft or the path is difficult. Spend the afternoon swimming and watching the dunes: stay on existing trails and respect any marked nesting areas. The beach is accessible without a ticket; budget around €10–25 for water and a snack, depending on what you bring and what is available to buy.

Before evening, retrace the trail to Agios Ioannis and organize your return to your accommodation from there; avoid relying on unconfirmed rides and consider bringing a flashlight for getting around after sunset.

Day 3 – Two beaches between coast and nature

10:00–19:00 Relaxed, with car transfers

Discover two Gavdos beaches, spending time by the sea and returning to the port according to the ferry schedule.

10:00

Pirgos Beach

Reach the beach by local transport or a rental vehicle from the port or your arrival point on the island; allow roughly 20–35 minutes, depending on the road and ground conditions. Spend about two hours swimming and walking along the coast, bringing water and sunscreen: facilities may be absent or limited. Beach access is generally free; check in advance for any transport costs and local conditions.

Before you leave, arrange your return transfer: availability and frequency of services can vary.

13:15

Potamos Beach

Continue to Potamos Beach by car or local transport; allow about 25–40 minutes, leaving extra time for narrow or unpaved roads. Spend the afternoon between swimming and walking, taking in the coastal scenery and rock formations; pack a picnic lunch, since it is not wise to rely on beachside refreshment spots. The beach does not normally charge an entrance fee, while transport and refreshments have variable costs.

Set your return to the port well in advance of the ferry departure and check for any service updates.

Day 4 – Kastri and the island lighthouse

10:00–21:00 Light walks and road transfers

Discover the village of Kastri and reach the lighthouse to get to know a symbolic place in Gavdos and admire the island’s landscape.

10:00

Kastri

Dedicate about two hours to exploring the heart of Kastri on foot, among scattered houses, narrow lanes, and views over the island’s countryside; take a break at a local spot, if available, before continuing. From the port of Karave, you need to arrange a road transfer: allow roughly 15–30 minutes, depending on the vehicle and the condition of the route. The village walk usually does not require a ticket; plan on about 3–8 € for a drink or snack.

Confirm in advance whether taxis, buses, or rides are available: on the island, services can be infrequent.

14:00

Gavdos Lighthouse

Reach the lighthouse with an arranged transfer from Kastri, allowing about 15–30 minutes on the road depending on the vehicle and local conditions. Allow an hour or a little more to observe the building and the surrounding landscape; access to the interior spaces, if possible, depends on current conditions, so check official information and tickets before you go. For the exterior visit, consider an entrance cost of 0 € and budget roughly 10–25 € per person for a local transfer, to be arranged; leave enough time for the return to Karave and the ferry departure.

Bring water, sunscreen, and suitable shoes; do not count on a return connection unless you have confirmed its schedule and availability.

Day 5 – Inland villages of Gavdos

10:00–17:30 Light walks and road transfers

Discover the rural character of Gavdos by visiting Ampelos and Vatsiana without focusing the day on the beaches.

10:00

Ampelos

Dedicate about two hours to a respectful walk among the houses and paths of the small settlement, taking in the dry landscape, olive trees, and Mediterranean vegetation. Reach the area from the port of Karave with a means of transport arranged in advance; times depend on the road surface and route conditions. Bring water and a snack: do not assume services or refreshment spots will be available, and expect to pay around 0–5 € for a drink if one is available.

Before departure, check the official website or with local operators for any services and connection conditions; avoid entering private property.

13:00

Vatsiana

Head southeast for about 30–45 minutes, allowing extra time for a slow road and any unscheduled stops. In Vatsiana, walk among the houses and take in the village’s rural character, keeping a discreet approach and respecting residents’ peace and quiet; allow about 1–2 hours for the visit. Plan to bring a packed lunch or make a stop arranged in advance: for a simple meal on the island, budget roughly 12–25 € per person if a place is available.

Do not count on supplies or return transport unless you have arranged them in advance; leave enough time to get back to the port according to the ferry schedule.

Day 6 – Southern coast: Tripiti and Diana Beach

10:00–21:00 Active, with walking and beach stops

Reach the southern coast of Gavdos, spending time on the views of Tripiti and relaxing by the sea at Diana Beach.

10:00

Tripiti Beach

From the port of Karave, arrange a local transfer in advance to the most practical access point, then continue on foot along the trail to Tripiti: travel times and trail conditions depend on your starting point, so plan on several hours between outbound trip, stop, and return. Take in the arid landscape of the southern tip and the rocky formations above the sea; bring water, a hat, and suitable shoes, because shade can be scarce along the way. The beach is natural and the stop usually does not require a ticket, while the local transfer can cost roughly 10–25 € each way, to be arranged on site.

Check the trail and organize your return before setting off; do not rely on spontaneous or frequent connections.

15:30

Diana Beach

Reach Diana Beach with an arranged local transfer or, only if the route is confirmed and conditions allow, on foot: allow realistic timings and do not improvise shortcuts over isolated terrain. Spend about two hours swimming and resting, taking in the coast and the seabed before entering the water; bring water and a snack with you, as services may be limited or unavailable. Access to the beach is generally free; allow about 10–25 € for an additional local transfer and 10–20 € for a simple meal, depending on availability and the season.

Leave plenty of time to get back to Karave port and catch the ferry; check the updated schedules directly with the operator.

Day 7 – Korfos coast and inland Gavdos

10:00–21:00 Relaxed, with short transfers

Enjoy the Korfos coast and get to know the rural landscape of Metochi, leaving room for transport schedules.

10:00

Korfos Beach

Reach the beach from the port or from the island arrival point using the available transport; timings and connections depend on the season and must be checked locally. Spend the morning swimming and taking a walk along the bay, bringing water, sunscreen, and everything you need to stay on the beach: services may be limited. Access to the beach is generally free; allow about 5–15 € per person for any local transfer, to be confirmed before departure. For a meal, plan for a simple, flexible break without straying too far from your return point.

Check the sea connection in advance and arrange your return with the driver if you are using a private transfer.

16:00

Metochi

After the central break, reach Metochi with a local transfer or on foot only if the route and conditions allow it; check the actual distance and the availability of crossings on site. Wander among the inland homes and plots, taking in the arid landscape, Mediterranean vegetation, and the island’s unhurried pace. The visit is free and usually does not require a ticket; allow for about €5–15 for a possible return transfer, a fare to be asked about locally. Leave a wide margin for getting back to the port and do not base your day on an unconfirmed ferry time.

Bring water and shoes suitable for rough roads; for opening hours or any services, check official information or ask on site.
