How to get around
To explore West Samos freely, especially the beaches and villages away from the main centers, it’s worth renting a car or a scooter. Buses connect places like Karlovasi and Marathokampos, but services can be less frequent in rural areas and outside the high season. Check timetables and connections in advance, especially if you’re planning evening returns. In built-up areas, such as Karlovasi, it’s often easy to get around on foot, while on inland roads it’s best to drive carefully.
When to go
The best period is from May to June and from September to early October: the temperatures are pleasant and the resorts tend to be less crowded than in peak summer. July and August are ideal for the sea, but they can be hot and busier. In spring and autumn, some tourist services may have reduced hours; check the opening times of accommodation, restaurants and transport connections before you travel.
Where to eat
In Karlovasi, Marathokampos and coastal villages such as Ormos and Votsalakia, you’ll find tavernas and eateries where you can try fish, home-style Greek dishes and island specialties.
