How to get around
To reach Xylokastro by car, take the A8 highway, which connects the area with Athens and Patras. KTEL buses serve the coast and link the town with other cities in the Peloponnese: check stops and timetables in advance, as they may vary by season. To explore the inland villages and the mountain areas of Evrostina, a car is the most practical option. In town, the seafront and Pefkias Forest are easy to visit on foot.
When to go
Spring and early autumn are ideal for strolling around and visiting the inland areas, with temperatures generally milder than in summer. From June to September the coast is livelier and the sea is tempting for swimming, but it can get very hot in the middle of the day. In winter the atmosphere is quieter and in the mountain areas the climate can be noticeably colder: check the forecast if you plan hikes.
Where to eat
In Xylokastro you’ll find tavernas and eateries along the center and the seafront, often serving classic Greek dishes plus fish or seafood. Inland, the village tavernas are a great chance to try homemade cooking and local products. Ask about the daily specials and check opening hours, especially outside peak season, when some places may open only at certain times.
