Getting around
To explore Voria Kerkyra, a car offers the greatest flexibility, especially for reaching beaches and villages with fewer transport links. Local buses connect Corfu Town with some of the main resorts in the north, but services can be infrequent out of season: check the updated timetables before setting off. Secondary roads are sometimes narrow and winding, so drive carefully and allow for longer travel times than expected. In summer, factor in traffic and parking difficulties near the busiest beaches.
When to go
Spring and early autumn are ideal for enjoying the scenery and visiting the area in milder temperatures and with fewer crowds. From June to September the weather is suited to beach life, but July and August are the hottest and busiest months. In the low season the atmosphere is peaceful, although some services and connections may be reduced.
Where to eat
Look for tavernas in the villages and coastal resorts to taste Corfiot cuisine, which blends Greek and Venetian influences. Typical dishes include pastitsada, sofrito and bourdeto, often made with local ingredients. In seaside areas you’ll also find fish and seafood; ask what the day’s specialties are and check whether booking is needed in high season.
Quick tips
- 01Bring cash: in small shops and villages, card payments are not always accepted.
- 02Check bus times in advance, especially for the return journey.
- 03Wear suitable shoes if you plan to reach coves or viewpoints on foot.
- 04In summer, book the car and the most popular restaurants in advance.
Wake up in the right place.
