Day 1

Vigo di Fassa, Ciampedie and relaxation in Pozza

10:00–21:00 Cultural in the morning, moderate hiking, relaxing in the afternoon

Discover Ladin culture and reach a panoramic viewpoint of the Catinaccio, with a return to the valley for a thermal break.

10:00

Visit the Museo Ladin de Fascia

Allow about 60–75 minutes for the collections on Ladin history, language, and traditions. The museum is located in Vigo di Fassa and can be easily reached on foot from the center; admission may be subject to a fee, typically in the range of €5–10 for an adult.

The museum opens in the morning from 10:00 in summer; in other periods the listed opening time is in the afternoon and it is closed on Saturday: in that case, go up to Ciampedie first and visit the museum on the way back, if the schedule allows it (Istituto Ladin website).

11:15

Stroll through the center of Vigo and visit the Church of San Giovanni

Walk to the Church of San Giovanni and admire the Gothic bell tower, one of the village’s most distinctive landmarks. Allow about 30–40 minutes for the walk and visit, while respecting any religious services; the exterior can be visited free of charge.

For the interior, check accessibility and opening times on site; respectful attire is recommended.

12:00

Cable car ride to Ciampedie

From the Vigo station, take the Catinaccio cable car: in just a few minutes you climb from about 1,390 to 2,000 meters, with an elevation gain of around 600 meters. A round-trip ticket can vary roughly between 20 and 30 €; allow for waiting times and check before departure that the lift is operating.

The cable car is seasonal and may suspend service due to weather or maintenance. If it is closed or the weather is poor, stay down in the valley and spend more time at the museum and on a walk through the village.

12:30

Lunch and views at Ciampedie

Have lunch at one of the mountain refreshment spots, if open, or eat a packed meal in the designated areas. Set aside about an hour: from Ciampedie you can enjoy sweeping views of the Catinaccio group and the surrounding peaks. For a simple lunch, allow roughly 15–30 € per person.

Bring water and a warm layer: even on summer days, temperatures at altitude can be noticeably lower.

13:30

Walk from Ciampedie to Rifugio Gardeccia

Follow the marked trail toward Gardeccia: the route takes roughly 50–70 minutes each way, with about 150–200 meters of downhill on the way there and uphill on the return. The terrain is mountain path and can be uneven; allow about 2–2.5 hours total for the outbound walk, a stop, and the return to Ciampedie.

Proceed only with stable weather, suitable footwear, and enough time to return before the lift closes. If the trail or refuge is not accessible, stick to the short, marked routes around Ciampedie.

16:00

Return to Vigo and transfer to Pozza di Fassa

Take the cable car down and reach Pozza di Fassa by local bus, in about 10–20 minutes depending on the stop and traffic; alternatively, the drive is short. Check timetables and connections before leaving Vigo: schedules may change between high and low season.

Do not plan to walk back: the two villages are separate, and the bus or car are the practical options.

17:00

Stop at QC Terme Dolomiti

End the day at QC Terme Dolomiti in Pozza, with a few hours of relaxation in the wellness areas. Admission can vary approximately from 50 to 90 € per person depending on time slot, day, and included services; booking and availability should be checked directly.

If you prefer to skip the thermal baths or cannot find availability, take a leisurely stroll through the center of Pozza and along the Avisio stream. Check opening hours, access rules, and booking conditions in advance.

Practical tips

  • Check the weather forecast and trail conditions before heading up to Ciampedie; at higher elevations, bring shoes with treaded soles, water, and a waterproof layer.
  • The Catinaccio cable car and the mountain huts are seasonal and may close because of weather or maintenance: check official updates and do not rely on unconfirmed schedules.
  • Check the updated timetables for local buses between Vigo and Pozza, especially for the return trip in the late afternoon; consider the car as an alternative.
  • For QC Terme Dolomiti, check opening time slots, whether booking is required, rules, and availability in advance; if the weather is bad, favor indoor activities in the valley.
