Stylida is a convenient base for exploring the Maliakos Gulf, the city of Lamia, and the historic landscape of Thermopylae. On the first day, stay along the coast, alternating the port with a beach break nearby; the second is devoted to Lamia’s historic center and museums. The final day follows the route westward to visit the Thermopylae site and end in Kamena Vourla. Get to know Stylida and enjoy the coast without straying too far from base.
10:00
Walk to Stylida harbor
Start at the port, the maritime heart of the town, and watch the boats and the activities tied to fishing and local traffic. Set aside about an hour for a stroll along the waterfront: access to the port area is free, but some operational zones may be off-limits.
The port is liveliest in the morning; respect the work areas.
11:30
Coffee and a stroll through the center
Stop at one of the cafés in the center for a Greek coffee or a cold drink, usually around 2–5 €. Then explore the nearby streets on foot and stock up on water and sunscreen before heading to the beach.
For this part, you won’t need a car.
13:00
Lunch in Stylida
Choose a taverna in town and go for fish, salads, and grilled dishes: a simple lunch can cost around 12–22 € per person. Ask which daily specials are available, since the menu changes with the season and the catch.
On summer weekends, it’s wise to arrive early or book ahead.
15:00
Transfer to Paralia Rachon
Drive to Paralia Rachon in about 20–30 minutes, depending on your starting point and traffic. The resort offers a seaside break and a different perspective on the gulf; beach access is generally free, while sunbeds and umbrellas may cost around 5–15 €.
Check on site for the availability of services and parking, especially outside peak season.
17:00
Free time at the beach
Set aside a couple of hours to swim or stroll along the shore. Bring water shoes if you’d rather enter the sea without walking on the pebbles, and check the wind conditions before swimming.
Do not leave valuables unattended.
19:30
Return and dinner in Stylida
Head back to town and end the day with a relaxed dinner. Expect about 15–28 € per person for a taverna dinner, depending on your choice of fish and drinks.
In summer, sunset over the gulf is a good time for a short walk along the waterfront.
Discover the history of Phthiotis by focusing visits and breaks in the center of Lamia.
09:30
Departure for Lamia
From Stylida, reach Lamia in about 25–35 minutes by car; the bus trip may take longer and depends on the available services. Park near the center and continue on foot for the main visits.
Check schedules and connections in advance if you are traveling without a car.
10:15
Lamia Castle
Climb up to the castle to explore the fortified complex and take in its commanding position over the city and the plain. Allow about 60–90 minutes, including scenic stops; the outdoor areas may be accessible free of charge, while any museum spaces follow their own opening hours and rules.
Wear comfortable shoes: the route includes uphill stretches and uneven surfaces.
11:45
Archaeological Museum of Lamia
Spend about an hour on the archaeological collections, useful for understanding the history of the area and its ancient settlements. Admission may be free or subject to fees according to current regulations: check opening hours, closures, and prices before visiting.
The museum is located in the castle area; do not assume it will be open on public holidays.
13:15
Lunch in the center of Lamia

Ask for the dish of the day for an option that is often more affordable.
15:00
Eleftherias Square and urban stroll
Reach Eleftherias Square and take some time to observe the city’s everyday life, among cafés, shops, and central streets. The square is a free public space; you can continue with an unhurried stroll around the area without a strict plan.
During the hottest hours, alternate walking with breaks in the shade.
17:00
Coffee stop and return
Treat yourself to a break for a coffee or a sweet snack, with an estimated cost of 3–7 €. Return to Stylida in the late afternoon and keep the evening free for a relaxed dinner, taking driving times into account.
If you visited the museum, check for any schedule changes in the morning before setting off.

09:00
Departure from Stylida toward Thermopylae
Drive west: the trip to the Thermopylae area takes about 40–50 minutes. Bring water and sun protection, as some visits take place outdoors and shade may be limited.
If you do not have a car, carefully check the feasibility of traveling between the site, the museum, and the coastal resorts.
09:50
Leonidas Monument
Stop at the monument dedicated to Leonidas and take in the pass landscape, which helps explain the strategic layout of the place. The outdoor visit is short and generally free; allow about 30–45 minutes.
Cross only at safe points and pay attention to traffic.
10:45
Thermopylae Historical Information Center
Visit the information center to reconstruct the battle and its historical context through exhibits and audiovisual content. The average duration is 45–60 minutes; any tickets and opening hours may vary, so it is advisable to check them before departure.
The center may have reduced opening hours or be closed on certain days.
12:00
Thermopylae Hot Springs
Head to the area’s natural hot springs for an outdoor stop and to take in the waters and surrounding landscape. The visit may be free, but accessibility, water conditions, and facilities are not always guaranteed: ask locally and do not bathe if conditions are unclear.
Avoid bathing if there are safety notices or bans.
13:30
Lunch and transfer to Kamena Vourla
Have lunch at a taverna along the way or in Kamena Vourla, budgeting around 12–24 € per person. The transfer from Thermopylae takes roughly 25–35 minutes by car.
