7 days / 6 nights · Beaches, villages, nature, food
The itinerary explores Sithonia by area, starting from the coast of Nikiti and gradually moving south toward Neos Marmaras, before finishing in the Ormos Panagias area. The first three nights can be spent in Nikiti, the next two between Sarti and Toroni, and the last one in Neos Marmaras, reducing the need for constant changes of accommodation. The days alternate between equipped beaches and more natural coves, with an optional boat trip in the sea stretch between Vourvourou and Diaporos. Driving times are approximate: in summer, traffic, parking and the access roads to the beaches can make trips longer.

Get to know the peninsula and take your time exploring the old town and the beaches south of Nikiti.
10:00
Arrival and orientation in Nikiti
Spend the morning settling in and taking a short walk along the seafront, which is also useful for spotting parking, markets, and restaurants. Nikiti is a practical base for the northwestern coast; budget around €15–25 for a simple lunch per person.
If you’re coming from Thessaloniki, allow roughly 1 hour and 15 minutes–1 hour and 40 minutes by car, depending on traffic and your starting point.
11:30
Old Nikiti
Head up to the historic core to see the stone houses, narrow sloping lanes, and the church, then stop for a coffee in the shade. The visit is short and free; in the heat, it’s better to leave the car in the designated spots on the edge of the village.
The streets are partly cobbled: comfortable shoes are best.
13:00
Lunch and a break in Nikiti
Head back toward the coastal area and choose a taverna or bakery for an unrushed meal. A light meal can cost around €10–18 per person, drinks excluded or included depending on the place.
15:00
Agios Ioannis Beach
Reach the beach in about 10 minutes by car and enjoy your first swim in a wide bay, with both organized stretches and free areas. Bring water and sunscreen: sunbeds and an umbrella may come with a fee or a variable minimum spend.
In peak season, parking near the beach fills up early.
17:30
Kastri Beach and return
Continue for a few minutes to Kastri, prized for its clear water and views of the coast. Spend about an hour there, then head back to Nikiti for dinner and overnight; a taverna dinner can range roughly from €18 to €35 per person.
Explore three beaches close to each other without leaving the western coast.
09:30
Departure for Koviou Beach
From Nikiti, drive south for about 15–20 minutes and reach Koviou, a sheltered bay with clear water and a seabed that can get deep quickly. Spend the morning swimming and snorkeling; access to the beach is generally free, while services may be seasonal.
12:00
Kalogria Beach
Drive a few minutes to Kalogria, where the sandy seabed and sheltered waters are ideal for a longer stop. Sunbed and umbrella rental, when available, is subject to varying rates and conditions.
Bring cash for small purchases and check on site which services are available.
14:00
Simple lunch on the coast
Take a break at a taverna or refreshment spot in the area, budgeting around 15–25 € per person for an informal meal. On hotter days, it is useful to alternate lunch with a break in the shade rather than staying in the sun for many hours.
15:30
Elia Beach
Reach Elia in about 10–15 minutes and walk along the stretch of coast, partly characterized by pine forest and accommodation facilities. The beach is long and offers several areas: choose the spot based on shade availability and the services open.
18:00
Return to Nikiti
Head back at a relaxed pace, allowing about 20–30 minutes of driving and possible slowdowns in the summer months. The evening is free: a stroll along the waterfront and dinner with fish or local dishes, with an estimated cost of 20–35 € per person.
Discover the eastern coast and the protected waters between Vourvourou and Diaporos Island.
08:30
Departure for Vourvourou
From Nikiti, reach Vourvourou in about 25–35 minutes by car, setting off early to make parking easier. The area is a good starting point for the bays and boat rentals; check availability, requirements, and weather conditions in advance.
09:15
Livari Lagoon
Stop in the lagoon area to take in the low, sheltered landscape, where the sea and inland waters create a peaceful setting. It is a short, free scenic stop; respect the natural areas and do not leave any litter behind.
10:00
Fava Beach
Head to Fava for a break in a more natural bay, bringing water, snacks, and reef shoes if conditions call for them. Access and services are basic and may vary, so do not count on bars or rentals.
11:30
Karidi Beach
Continue on to Karidi, famous for its clear waters and shallow seabed in some stretches. It is one of the busiest beaches in the area: allow time for parking and keep your stop short if it is very crowded.
Do not park outside the designated spaces: in peak season, checks and congestion can be frequent.
14:00
Lunch and optional boarding
Have lunch in Vourvourou or nearby and, if the sea and your budget allow, consider a boat trip to Diaporos. Costs vary: a shared excursion can be in the range of 30–60 € per person, while renting a small boat can exceed 100 € for the group, often with fuel extra.
15:30
Diaporos and return
During the excursion, admire the bays and seabed from the sea, stopping only at permitted points and in safe conditions. Return at the agreed time and drive back to Nikiti; if you do not take the trip, use the afternoon for another swim stop along the coast.
Reach the southeastern coast, combining a seaside village with beaches of pale rock formations.
09:00
Transfer to Sarti
Depart from Nikiti and drive southeast for about 1 hour–1 hour and 20 minutes, depending on traffic and road conditions. Sarti is a convenient base for lunch and for the area’s beaches; stock up before heading away from built-up areas.
10:30
Sarti and a stroll along the promenade
Take a walk along the promenade and admire the silhouette of Mount Athos on clear days. A coffee stop typically costs 3–6 €; you can also pick up water and snacks before heading to less equipped beaches.
12:00
Sykia
Head inland for a short visit to Sykia, a traditional village that offers a peaceful contrast to the coast. Allow about 45 minutes for a walk and a light lunch, with indicative prices of 12–22 € per person.
14:30
Kavourotrypes Beach
Return to the coast and reach Kavourotrypes, a series of small rocky coves with turquoise water. Access may require a walk over uneven ground and facilities are not guaranteed: bring suitable shoes, water, and everything you need.
17:00
Platanitsi Beach and overnight stay
Finish with a stop at Platanitsi, which is larger and generally convenient for a longer break; check on-site for any facilities and access conditions. Spend the night in Sarti or nearby to avoid the evening drive back to Nikiti, about an hour away or more.
Head down the eastern coast and cross the southern part of the peninsula to Porto Koufo.
09:00
Departure and arrival in Toroni
From Sarti, drive to Toroni for about 25–35 minutes, enjoying the coastal scenery along the way. Leave the car in a permitted area and spend the morning on the town’s long beach, alternating between swimming and strolling.
11:30
Ancient Toroni
Explore the remains of ancient Toroni and the archaeological features visible along the coast, without crossing fences or restricted areas. Accessibility and the possible opening of information facilities may vary; think of this visit mainly as a walk around the site and allow time in the shade.
13:00
Lunch in Toroni
Stop at a local taverna for fish, salads, or Greek dishes, with an estimated cost of 18–35 € per person. In the summer months, it’s wise to ask for the menu and prices before ordering fish sold by weight.
15:00
Porto Koufo
Reach Porto Koufo in about 10 minutes: the natural harbor is one of the most sheltered coves on the peninsula and is best enjoyed with a walk along the waterfront. You can stop for a coffee or an ice cream, around 3–7 €, or watch the boats from the pier.
17:00
Tristinika Beach and transfer
Stop in Tristinika for a swim or a walk on the beach, keeping in mind that wind and waves can change sea conditions. Then drive to Neos Marmaras, about 35–50 minutes, and stay overnight in the town for the next two nights.
Alternate the pace of the harbor and the beach with a scenic climb up to the village of Parthenonas.
09:30
Neos Marmaras
Spend the morning in the center and at the harbor, among alleys, shops, and cafés, without planning any long transfers. A coffee and a light breakfast can cost around 5–10 €; check for any boat excursions if you’d like to add one.
11:30
Paradisos Beach
Head to Paradisos, just north of the center, for a swim or a walk along the shore. The area alternates between free stretches and seasonal services; loungers, when available, have variable rates.
13:30
Lunch in Neos Marmaras
Head back into town for lunch and use the break to rest during the hottest hours. Budget around 15–30 € per person for a taverna meal, depending on dishes and drinks.
16:30
Parthenonas
Drive up to the village of Parthenonas, about 15–25 minutes from Neos Marmaras on a winding road. Stroll among the stone houses and panoramic viewpoints; bring water and wear comfortable shoes for the uphill streets.
19:00
Return and dinner on the harbor
Return before dark and end the day in Neos Marmaras with a walk and dinner. For dinner, budget roughly 20–35 € per person, choosing a restaurant and checking the prices of fresh fish.
Explore the northeastern section of the peninsula and end the trip with a beach stop before departure.
08:30
Departure from Neos Marmaras
Leave your accommodation and drive north for about 45–60 minutes, allowing extra time for traffic. If you need to continue to the airport or Thessaloniki, check the distance from the last beach first and don’t rely on minimum travel times.
09:45
Agios Nikolaos
Take a short walk through the village, past the square, central streets, and cafés, for a break before heading to the sea. Allow about 30–45 minutes and keep in mind that the stop is more pleasant during the cooler hours.
10:45
Ormos Panagias
Reach the port to watch the boats and stroll along the waterfront; some boat excursions also depart from here, subject to schedule, availability, and weather conditions. If you don’t have time for an excursion, visiting the port is free.
12:00
Trani Ammouda Beach
Head to Trani Ammouda for a swim, a wide sandy beach suited to a longer stop. Bring water and sunscreen and check on site for the availability of facilities and equipped areas; a light lunch or snack can cost about 8–18 €.
14:30
Lagonisi Beach and departure
End with a short stop at Lagonisi, keeping in mind that access and services may change depending on the season and visitor numbers. Allow enough time for the next transfer: getting to Thessaloniki Airport generally takes over an hour and a half by car, depending on traffic.
