Guide to Sithonia
SITHONIA · ITINERARY

Sithonia (Chalkidiki, Kentriki Makedonia, Greece) in 1 days – Complete itinerary

1 days / 0 nights · Beaches, villages, sea, gastronomy

The day follows a compact route along the eastern coast of Sithonia, starting from Nikiti and with stops in Ormos Panagias and Vourvourou. The car is the most practical way to get around: the roads connect the towns in a short time, but in summer it’s wise to factor in traffic and crowded parking. The itinerary alternates short walks, a lunch break and time for swimming, without requiring any demanding excursions. Ending at Agios Ioannis Beach lets you enjoy the sea in the late afternoon before having dinner in Nikiti.

Day 1 – From Vourvourou Bay to the beaches of Nikiti

10:00–21:00 Moderate pace, by car with breaks

Discover Sithonia’s eastern stretch by alternating harbor, coastline, and swims, then head back to Nikiti for dinner.

10:00

Breakfast and a stroll in Nikiti

Start in the center of Nikiti with breakfast at a café and a short walk through the town streets. Allow about 45 minutes; a simple breakfast typically costs around 5–10 € per person. If you’re coming from the coastal area, check parking before heading into the center.

Having water and a swimsuit within easy reach makes the day much easier.

11:00

The port of Ormos Panagias

Drive to Ormos Panagias in about 10–15 minutes, depending on your starting point and traffic. Take a walk along the pier and watch the fishing boats and tourist boats heading toward the Mount Athos coast; a short stop at the port is free, while boat trips have varying prices and take more time.

For this day, it’s best to stick to the port: a cruise would take up most of the itinerary.

12:00

Coast and bay of Vourvourou

Continue by car toward Vourvourou, about 15–20 minutes away. The area is prized for its sheltered bay and views of the offshore islands: stop at a safe, accessible spot for a walk and a few photos. Access to the coast is generally free; renting a kayak or small boat, when available, involves an additional cost of around 20–60 € or more, depending on duration and season.

Don’t park along the roadway: use designated parking areas and respect access to private properties.

13:00

Lunch in Vourvourou

Stop at a tavern or a local restaurant for a leisurely lunch, choosing fish, Greek salads, or the daily specials. Allow about an hour and an estimated budget of 15–30 € per person, depending on the dishes and drinks. In the summer months, it may be useful to ask for a table as soon as you arrive.

Check the displayed menu and ask the price of fish sold by weight before ordering.

14:30

Swimming at Karidi Beach

Reach Karidi Beach in just a few minutes by car from Vourvourou and spend at least two hours on the beach. The shallow water and light-colored sand make it ideal for a swim break; access to the beach is free, but parking and facilities may be limited or subject to charges, especially in peak season. Bring water, sunscreen, and suitable shoes if you want to explore the rocky outcrops on either side of the bay.

Arriving in the early afternoon does not guarantee a spot near the beach: do not leave valuables in the car.

17:30

Relax and sunset at Agios Ioannis Beach

Head back toward Nikiti and reach Agios Ioannis Beach in about 25–35 minutes by car, taking traffic into account. Here you can enjoy one last swim or a walk along the shore before sunset; access is free, while sunbeds and umbrellas, if desired, are usually paid extras and rates vary from one venue to another.

Leave some time for the return trip: the main road can slow down during peak summer hours.

19:30

Dinner and an evening stroll in Nikiti

End in Nikiti, just a few minutes from Agios Ioannis Beach, with dinner at a tavern and a stroll after dinner. For a full meal, budget roughly 18–35 € per person, depending on the dishes, drinks, and venue. If you dine on the seafront or in the old town, check in advance the kitchen hours and parking availability.

In peak season, booking ahead or dining a little earlier than the rush hour can reduce the wait.

Practical tips

  • In summer, set off on time and factor in traffic and parking difficulties near the busiest beaches.
  • Bring water, sunscreen, and a hat: natural shade can be scarce during the middle of the day.
  • Check sea conditions and any flags before swimming or renting a kayak.
  • Keep some cash for small purchases, while checking in advance which places accept cards.
