Day 1 – From the Port to the Upper Town

10:00–21:00 Moderate walks, challenging climb

Discover Symi’s harbor and walk up to Chorio on foot, taking time to enjoy the views and atmosphere of both areas.

10:00

Gialos and the Clock Tower

Spend about an hour along the Gialos waterfront, strolling among the moored boats and the neoclassical façades that frame the harbor; admire the Clock Tower from the outside and use it as a landmark to find your way along the pier. The visit is on foot and does not require a ticket, so the approximate cost is €0, excluding any food or drinks. If you arrive by ferry, check in advance that the disembarkation time fits the schedule.

Bring water and sunscreen: shade along the waterfront can be limited.

11:30

Kali Strata

Reach the start of Kali Strata from the center of Gialos and take the staircase up to Chorio at a relaxed pace: the route is steep and includes several hundred steps, with the climb taking about 30–45 minutes, excluding breaks. Along the way, stop to look at the harbor roofs from above and the details of the houses; walking the route is free. Allow about an hour and a half in total to go up unhurriedly and take breaks.

Shoes with good grip and a bottle of water are especially useful.

13:00

Chorio (Upper Town)

Spend the afternoon wandering through the alleys of Chorio, taking in doorways, balconies, and views opening out over the bay; plan a lunch break of about an hour and a half in a local taverna, with an estimated cost of €15–30 per person. You can stay in the upper town until late afternoon and then walk back down to Gialos, allowing about 30–45 minutes for the descent and stops. Finish with dinner by the harbor, to be considered separately in the budget, at roughly €20–40 per person; for any museums or entrances, check prices and availability on the official websites.

Before heading back down, consider the heat and your energy levels: taxis or local buses can be alternatives, depending on availability and current fares.

Day 2 – Windmills and fortifications above the harbor

10:00–20:30 Easy walks, with some uphill sections

Explore the historic panoramic spots on foot in the upper part of Symi, alternating visits with breaks and free time.

10:00

Pontikokastro (Old Windmills)

From the port of Gialos, head up to the upper part of town by taxi or on foot: the walking route usually takes about 30–45 minutes and includes steps and uphill stretches; allow more time during the hottest hours. Around Pontikokastro, take in the remains and silhouettes of the old windmills, with views over Symi’s rooftops and the sea: plan 45–60 minutes for the visit and photos. The walk usually has no entrance fee, but budget around €0–10 for water or a break; check any local information before visiting.

Wear shoes with good grip and bring water: shade can be limited.

12:15

Castle of the Knights

Continue on foot toward the castle in the upper area, allowing about 15–25 minutes along narrow streets and stairways; the duration depends on your starting point and pace. Spend 45–60 minutes in the area, paying attention to the remains of the fortifications and the views over the harbor and the island houses; for the return to Gialos, allow another 25–40 minutes on foot, or a taxi if available. For the exterior visit, estimate around €0–5, plus any drinks or transport costs; check the official website or local information for any access details, tickets, and visiting conditions.

After the visit, you can stop for lunch and spend the afternoon at an easy pace before heading back; check the boat schedule in advance.

Day 3 – The bays of Symi: Nos and Nimborio

10:00–19:00 Relaxed, with short transfers

Enjoy two beaches near Gialos, alternating swimming, rest time, and a scenic transfer.

10:00

Nos Beach

From the port of Gialos, reach the bay on foot in about 15–25 minutes, following the coastal road; alternatively, consider a taxi or local connection, if available. Spend the morning swimming and snorkeling: bring reef shoes and a mask, as the shoreline is mostly pebbled. Access to the beach is generally free, while any sunbeds, umbrellas, or refreshments may cost around 5–15 €.

Bring water and sunscreen: natural shade can be limited.

14:30

Nimborio Beach

After a lunch break in Gialos, continue to Nimborio by taxi or with any local service available; ask on site about timings and availability, or consider a boat transfer if operating. Allow roughly 10–20 minutes by car, varying depending on your starting point and the service chosen; the cost can be around 5–15 € per way. Spend the afternoon swimming and relaxing on the pebble shore, then return to Gialos by the same means or on foot only if the route and the heat make it suitable.

Lunch and drinks can cost roughly 15–30 € per person; check on site for any services and connections.

Day 4 – From Pedi to the waters of Agia Marina

10:00–21:00 Relaxed, with short transfers

Discover two bays of Symi by alternating a coastal walk with a swim stop reached by boat.

10:00

Pedi Bay

From Gialos, reach Pedi by bus, with an estimated journey of 10–15 minutes and an approximate cost of 2–4 € per person; alternatively, consider a taxi or rental car. Spend about two hours at the bay: stroll along the waterfront, watch the boats, and choose a suitable spot for a first swim. For a casual lunch break nearby, allow around 12–25 € per person, depending on your choice.

Check the bus timetable on site and arrange the boat departure to Agia Marina in advance.

14:00

Agia Marina Beach

From Pedi, reach the beach by water taxi or a local sea connection: the crossing is short, but availability and duration depend on conditions and the day’s service. Allow roughly 10–20 € per person for the transfer, to be confirmed before departure, and also agree on the return time. Spend the afternoon swimming and snorkeling, bringing water and sunscreen; once back in Gialos, you can have dinner with an estimated budget of 15–30 € per person.

Check sea conditions, any beach services, and return times; bring what you need for the stop.

Day 5 – The bays of Nanou and Marathounda

09:00–18:00 Relaxed, with transfers to plan

Discover two bays on Symi by alternating short hops, swims, and seaside breaks.

09:00

Nanou Beach

From Gialos, reach the bay by taxi boat or private boat: the sea journey usually takes about 20–30 minutes, but it must be arranged with the operator. Spend the morning swimming and relaxing, taking in the rocky outline of the coast; bring water, sunscreen, and shoes suitable for the pebbles. The beach generally has no entrance fee, while the boat transfer can cost roughly 15–30 € per person one way, depending on the service and arrangements.

Before you set off, confirm whether you can continue on to Marathounda and return to Gialos; check connections and fares with local operators.

13:30

Marathounda Beach

Continue to Marathounda by boat, if the arranged connection is available; alternatively, organize the return to Gialos and a land transfer by taxi or rental car, allowing around 30–40 minutes by road. Keep the afternoon for swimming and a peaceful break: the bay is framed by barren slopes and the seabed can be rocky, so water shoes are useful. Budget around 15–30 € for a boat transfer or, for the land option, a variable fare to be agreed; for a simple lunch and drinks, allow roughly 15–30 € per person.

Set a departure time and pickup point for the return in advance: do not rely on unconfirmed connections.

Day 6 – The monastery and the western coast of Symi

09:00–19:00 Visits and transfers, with a seaside break

Discover the Panormitis sanctuary and end the day with a few hours of relaxation in Toli Bay.

10:00

Panormitis Monastery

Reach Panormitis from the port of Gialos with a pre-booked vehicle: the road trip is scenic and takes roughly 50–70 minutes, depending on conditions and route. Spend about 1 hour and 30 minutes at the complex, taking in the courtyard, the bell tower, and the church dedicated to Archangel Michael; for any museum spaces or tickets, check the official information before visiting. Allow roughly €0–10 for any entrance fees or donations and factor in a simple lunch break before moving on.

Respectful clothing in places of worship; arrange the next transfer in advance, as local connections may be limited.

13:30

Toli Beach

From Panormitis, continue northwest by car or private transfer, allowing roughly 50–70 minutes on winding roads and checking the route conditions. Spend the afternoon on the beach, alternating swimming with a stroll along the bay; bring water, snacks, and gear, as facilities and availability may vary. For a light stop, allow around €5–15 per person, while a meal can cost roughly €15–30; return to Gialos with the arranged transport, without relying on unverified rides.

Check wind and sea conditions and decide on your return time in advance; if you’re taking a day ferry, make sure the buffer is sufficient.

Day 7 – Cliffs over the sea and inland heritage

09:00–19:00 Moderate, with transfers to plan

Reach a remote beach by sea and end the day with a visit to the sanctuary inland from Symi.

10:00

Agios Georgios Dysalonas Beach

Leave from Gialos on a boat trip or by water taxi: the crossing can take about 45–60 minutes, depending on the route and sea conditions. Set aside 2–3 hours for the cove to swim and take in the towering rock walls that frame it; the beach is isolated and it is not wise to count on any facilities. As a rough guide, expect 25–45 € for a boat connection or excursion, and check times, boarding point, and return arrangements in advance.

Bring water, sunscreen, shoes suitable for pebbles, and everything you need for your stay; agree on the return before you disembark.

15:30

Roukounioti Sanctuary

After returning to Gialos, allow about an hour for lunch and arrange a taxi or rental vehicle to reach the sanctuary; the road journey can take around 20–30 minutes, depending on your starting point. Set aside 45–60 minutes to explore the religious complex and its rural setting, respecting any visitor guidance. Budget around 20–35 € for a round-trip taxi transfer, to be confirmed directly, plus any donation or entrance fee, which should be checked on the official website or with local contacts.

Also plan your return to Gialos in advance; before visiting, check access and entry arrangements.
