Day 1 – Squares, collections and medieval Sibiu

10:00–17:00 Easy walks and a cultural visit

Getting oriented in the historic center and delving into Sibiu’s artistic history.

10:00

Piața Mare

Spend about an hour in the main square, taking in the historic facades, the town hall’s silhouette, and the distinctive dormer windows that look like little eyes. It’s a great starting point on foot to get your bearings between the upper town and the lower town; access to the square is free, so the cost is roughly 0 RON.

Also stop at the edges of the square to appreciate its shape and spot the passages leading into the center’s streets.

11:15

Muzeul Național Brukenthal

Walk to the palace facing the square and allow about 1.5–2 hours for the rooms and collections, choosing in advance the sections that interest you most. The ticket price can vary depending on exhibitions and accessible spaces: budget roughly 30–60 RON per person. Check the official website for rates, access, and collection availability.

The visit works well as a lunch break in the downtown restaurants before continuing on foot.

14:30

Piața Huet

Reach the square with a walk of about 5–10 minutes and spend 45–60 minutes observing the ensemble of historic buildings and the quieter atmosphere compared with Piața Mare. From here, you can clearly see the different levels of the center and the streets descending toward the lower town. Visiting the public spaces is free, roughly 0 RON.

The cobblestone streets can be uneven: choose comfortable shoes.

Day 2 – Cathedral, bridge, walls and ASTRA museum

09:30–18:00 Historic center on foot and transfer to the outskirts

Discover some of the city center’s landmark sights and devote the afternoon to Transylvania’s rural heritage.

09:30

Holy Trinity Metropolitan Cathedral

Walk to the cathedral from the center and allow about 30–45 minutes to admire the facade, the large dome, and the interior decorative details, if access is permitted at the time of your visit. Entry to places of worship may be free or involve donations: allow 0–10 RON. Dress respectfully and check for any visitor guidelines.

Before entering, make sure no services or private worship times are in progress.

10:30

Bridge of Lies

Head back toward the upper town with a walk of about 10–15 minutes and spend 20–30 minutes at the bridge, its ironwork decorations, and the surrounding lanes. It is a pedestrian crossing and photo stop, with no ticket required: indicative cost 0 RON. Also take in the elevation difference between the upper and lower parts of the center.

The area can be crowded: for photos, move to the side streets without standing in the middle of the crossing.

11:15

City Walls (the ancient walls)

Continue on foot toward the fortifications area, allowing about 10–15 minutes of walking and 45–60 minutes to stroll among the walls, towers, and preserved sections. The exterior route is generally an urban visit without a ticket, with an indicative cost of 0 RON; any exhibition spaces or specific access points may have separate fees. Stop for a light lunch in the center before heading to the museum.

Some sections have uneven paving; check the signage and accessible areas on site.

13:30

ASTRA National Museum Complex

From the center, reach the open-air museum by taxi or public transport; allow around 20–30 minutes for the transfer and check updated stops and schedules in advance. Set aside at least 2.5–3 hours to explore on foot the traditional houses, mills, and rural buildings spread across the site. Budget about 35–60 RON for a single ticket, to be confirmed on the official website; food and drinks may cost extra.

The area is large: bring water and comfortable shoes, and check the museum map for the route best suited to the time you have.
