In Skiathos, the bus connects the main town with the southern coast beaches, all the way to Koukounaries, with more frequent service in high season. The stops are numbered: check the destination and updated timetables, because the buses can get crowded in summer. To reach the less-served bays, you can rent a car or a scooter, but be careful on the narrow roads and with the limited parking. Taxis and boats are convenient alternatives for some beaches; find out in advance about availability and return connections.
The liveliest period runs from June to September, when the weather is warm and connections to the beaches are more frequent. July and August are the busiest and most expensive months; book accommodation and transport in advance. May and the second half of September often offer a quieter atmosphere, although some services may have reduced hours. In spring and autumn, check the weather conditions and the operation of boat connections.
In the main town, you’ll find tavernas and restaurants along the harbor and in the inland streets, serving Greek cuisine, fish, and dishes made with local ingredients. For a quieter meal, head away from the seafront and compare the menus on display before sitting down. In the beach areas, the options are convenient, but they can be more geared toward visitors and come with higher prices. In high season, it’s a good idea to book in the evening, especially at the most popular places.
