Day 1 – From colonial heart to the colors of craftsmanship

10:00–21:00 Easy walks with breaks

Explore the historic center on foot and discover local craftsmanship in the Santo Domingo area.

10:00

Historic Center and Eclesiástico Walkway

Set aside about two hours for a leisurely walk through the main square, historic facades, and the Eclesiástico Walkway, taking in porticoes, balconies, and architectural details; the route is pedestrian-friendly and easy to cover on foot. Pause for a coffee or a late breakfast, budgeting roughly MXN 50–120 for a drink and a snack. Before entering any buildings, check official websites for opening hours, visiting rules, and possible fees.

Wear comfortable shoes: the streets in the center can be uneven, and the city is at high altitude.

14:00

Handicraft Market and Santo Domingo

Walk to the Santo Domingo area in about 15–20 minutes, with a short lunch stop along the way: expect roughly MXN 120–250 for a simple meal. Spend a couple of hours at the market browsing textiles, embroidery, amber, and handmade goods; prices vary depending on materials and craftsmanship, while a small purchase may start at roughly MXN 100–300. Allow more time to admire the architecture of the Santo Domingo complex from the outside and, if access and conditions permit, to visit the areas open to the public: check any rules or fees in advance on official channels. End the day in the same area with a casual dinner, roughly MXN 150–350 per person, and an evening stroll; keep in mind that vendors and businesses may have varying availability.

Ask permission before photographing people or stalls, and bring cash in pesos for purchases.

Day 2 – Chiapas communities and Sumidero Canyon

05:30–20:30 Intense, with long transfers

Discover the traditions of two Tzotzil communities and cruise along the canyon walls in the same day.

05:30

San Juan Chamula and Zinacantán

Set off by car or on an arranged tour from San Cristóbal: allow about 30–45 minutes to reach San Juan Chamula and another 30–45 minutes to continue to Zinacantán. Spend around 2–2.5 hours total in the two towns, observing the architecture and craft activities; in the Chamula church, follow local rules and do not take photos without permission. To stay on schedule, head back toward Chiapa de Corzo by 10:00: the transfer can take about 2.5–3 hours, plus a short lunch break; factor in any local entry or visiting fees, roughly 20–100 MXN per person, to be confirmed on site.

Visit respectfully: communities are inhabited places of worship. The schedule is tight; ask the driver to confirm the route and timings in advance.

13:15

Sumidero Canyon

Make your way to the Chiapa de Corzo pier and board a boat for an excursion of about 2–3 hours, if the departure fits with your transfer arrival time. During the trip, admire the canyon’s towering walls, the rock formations, and, when visible, wildlife along the river; check availability, duration, and boat conditions in advance on official channels or with the operator. Budget approximately 250–500 MXN per person for the boat trip, plus transport; for the return to San Cristóbal, allow about 1–1,5 hours by car and plan to arrive in the evening.

Combining this with the morning visits is only feasible with well-coordinated transfers and a boat departure that matches your arrival time; otherwise, do not force the schedule.

Day 3

From Chiapa de Corzo to El Chiflón waterfalls

06:00–20:00 A full day, with car transfers and walks

Explore the center of Chiapa de Corzo and walk to the viewpoint of Velo de Novia waterfall.

07:15

Chiapa de Corzo

Leave San Cristóbal around 06:00 by private vehicle: the journey takes about an hour, depending on traffic and road conditions. Spend about two hours at the main square, the La Pila fountain, and the streets of the center; the walk itself is free, while any additional visits or activities may have separate costs. To continue on to El Chiflón, allow about 2–2,5 hours on the road and arrange transport in advance, as public connections can significantly lengthen the day.

Bring water and cash in Mexican pesos; check official channels for any updated fees and visitor information.

11:45

El Chiflón Waterfalls (Velo de Novia)

On arrival, plan for about three hours in the park: follow the trail along the river and reach the viewpoint of Velo de Novia waterfall, leaving time for stops and photos. The route includes steps and uphill sections, so shoes with good grip and a bottle of water are useful; budget roughly MXN 30–100 for entry, to be confirmed before your visit. After a lunch break, allow about 3–3,5 hours to return to San Cristóbal, with an estimated arrival in the evening.

Check the park’s official website for fees, access, and trail conditions; plan your return with a buffer for possible delays.

Day 4 – Montebello Lakes and Comitán town center

04:30–18:30 Intense, with long transfers

Admire the Montebello lagoons and end the day with a walk through the center of Comitán.

08:30

Lagos de Montebello

Leave San Cristóbal at around 04:30 by private car or with a driver and allow roughly 3½–4½ hours of travel, to be checked based on traffic and road conditions. Spend about three hours at the accessible viewpoints and along the lagoon shores, deciding on site how many stops to make; if you want a boat ride, ask local operators about availability and cost, typically 100–250 MXN. Bring water and a snack or packed lunch: any entrance fees and services may cost around 30–100 MXN, but rates and arrangements should be checked before visiting.

To keep the next stop on schedule, agree in advance on the pickup point and departure time; check the official website for updated information on access and tickets.

13:30

Comitán de Domínguez

Get to the center from Montebello in about 1½–2 hours, allowing extra time for traffic and stops. Stroll around the main square area and take in the facades and historic buildings, allowing about 1½–2 hours for a walking visit and a meal break; a simple meal can cost around 120–250 MXN. Head back to San Cristóbal around 15:30–16:00: the return trip may take about 2½–3 hours, so check the route conditions and plan your arrival without relying on exact timings.

If you want to visit a building or museum, check its official website in advance for hours, access, and tickets.

Day 5 – The great waterfalls of Chiapas

03:30–21:00 Very intense, with long transfers

Visit two natural landscapes of Chiapas in a single day, returning to San Cristóbal in the evening.

07:30

Cascadas de Agua Azul

Leave San Cristóbal around 03:30 with an organized tour or a car with a driver: the transfer can take about 4–5 hours, depending on the road and stops. Spend about 2 hours on the trails and at the viewpoints, taking in the pools and tiered waterfalls; the water’s color varies with natural conditions. Budget roughly 50–100 MXN for local entrance fees, in addition to transport, and check rates and trail conditions before departing.

Bring cash in pesos, shoes with good grip, and water; follow local guidance and do not approach stretches marked as dangerous.

12:00

Cascada de Misol-Ha

Continue by car to Misol-Ha: the transfer from Agua Azul can take about 1.5–2 hours. Allow 60–90 minutes on site to admire the waterfall and walk, if permitted and conditions are safe, the trail behind the cascade; budget roughly 50–100 MXN for admission. Plan a simple lunch break along the way or in the visitor area, then head back to San Cristóbal: the return trip may take about 4–5 hours, with arrival expected in the evening.

Travel times are not guaranteed: before confirming the excursion, check road conditions and local advisories; verify access and ticket information on the official channels of the sites.

Day 6 – From the Mayan city of Palenque to San Cristóbal

03:00–19:00 Very intense, with long transfers

Visit Palenque and, only if it fits with the confirmed timings, end the day at the Na Bolom Museum.

03:00

Archaeological Site of Palenque

Depart from San Cristóbal with a private car and driver: allow roughly 5–6 hours of travel each way, plus stops, and check route conditions before setting off. Spend about 2–3 hours at the site, focusing on the Temple of the Inscriptions, the Palace, and the carvings set in the forest; plan a break for water and a snack. Budget roughly MXN 100–300 for admission, to be checked on the official channels, plus transportation.

To make a same-day return possible, agree in advance with the driver on the departure time from Palenque and do not rely on bus connections.

17:30

Na Bolom Museum

After returning to San Cristóbal, reach the museum by taxi or a short drive from the center and allow about 45–60 minutes for the visit, if the entry time fits. The collections and rooms of the house tell the story of the work of Frans Blom and Gertrude Duby Blom, as well as the culture of the indigenous peoples of Chiapas. Allow roughly MXN 60–150 for admission and check the official website for opening hours, fees, and availability before you go: with the return from Palenque, this visit is not guaranteed.

If you cannot confirm an opening that fits your arrival time, do not force the stop: schedule Na Bolom for another day.

Day 7 – Caves and biodiversity of San Cristóbal

10:00–17:30 Easy walks, with taxi transfers

Explore an equipped cave and end the day among the orchids and vegetation of the region.

10:00

Grutas del Mamut

Dedicate about 1–1.5 hours to visiting the caverns and rock formations, following the accessible paths and staff instructions. From central San Cristóbal, allow roughly 15–25 minutes by taxi, depending on traffic; arrange your return or next transfer in advance. As a guideline, budget MXN 20–60 for admission and MXN 80–160 for a one-way taxi: fares and availability should be checked before the visit.

Bring closed-toe shoes with good grip and a light jacket; for lunch, head back toward the center and allow about an hour for the break.

15:00

Orchidio Moxviquil

Set aside about 1.5–2 hours to observe the orchids and other plant species, following the paths and respecting conservation guidelines. From the center, the taxi ride takes roughly 10–20 minutes; between the two stops, it’s wise to plan on returning, lunch, and some extra time for traffic. As a rough guide, expect MXN 30–80 for admission and MXN 60–140 for a taxi from the center, to be confirmed directly with the venue and the driver.

Light and ground conditions can vary: bring water and check up-to-date information on access and tickets before you leave.
