Pydna-Kolindros is a large area, with coastal resorts and inland towns: a car is the most convenient way to get around between the villages and reach the archaeological sites. The roads connect the area to Katerini and to the highway network of northern Greece. Regional buses are an option, but services and frequencies can be limited, especially on weekends and outside the peak season. If you want to explore the rural areas or stop along the coast, it is best to plan your trips in advance. In summer, allow extra time for traffic and for finding parking near the beaches.
Spring and early autumn are ideal for exploring the inland areas and historical sites in milder temperatures. From June to September, the weather is perfect for beach days, but the heat can make sightseeing less pleasant during the middle of the day. In spring the landscape is especially green; in autumn, on the other hand, the atmosphere is quieter. Before you travel, check the seasonal opening hours of museums and archaeological sites.
In the towns and coastal resorts, look for traditional tavernas, where you can find Greek dishes, grilled meats and, by the sea, fish and seafood. Offerings and opening hours can vary depending on the season, so in the quieter months it is useful to check in advance which places are open. For a simple meal, the cafés and bakeries in the villages also offer snacks and local products. Ask about the daily specials and whether the fish is fresh.
