The clock tower dominates the center and offers a splendid view of the harbor, the city rooftops, and the coast of the Peloponnese. It is one of the best spots to admire the sunset.

PorosAttica · Greece
One destination.
A thousand ways to live it.
Poros captivates with its picturesque harbor, fragrant pine forests, and the clear waters of the Saronic Gulf. Between a stroll through the center and a trip along the coast, the island offers a pleasant balance of culture, nature, and seaside life.
Worth seeing, worth remembering.
Located in the heart of the town, the museum displays artifacts that tell the story of the island and the surrounding area. It is an interesting stop for learning about the ancient past of the Saronic Gulf.
This historic monastery stands among the pines on the eastern side of Poros and is known for its intimate atmosphere and decorated church. The complex also offers striking views of the island landscape.
The ruins of the sanctuary are located inland, in a peaceful spot among the vegetation. One of the main places of worship of ancient Kalaureia once stood here.
The remains of the Russian shipyards recall Poros’s strategic role in the 19th century. The coastal area is pleasant to explore and offers beautiful views of the sea.
Sheltered among the pines, this small bay is prized for its clear water and relaxed atmosphere. It is an inviting place to swim and spend a few hours by the sea.

How to get around
The easiest connection to the mainland is the ferry between Galatas and Poros: the crossing is short, but schedules and frequency can vary. Once on the island, Poros town is easy to explore on foot. To reach beaches and places like Askeli and Neorio, you can use taxis, local buses, or rental vehicles; in high season, it’s a good idea to check timetables in advance. If you’re traveling by car, keep in mind that the roads can be narrow and that parking near the port fills up quickly.
When to go
From May to June and from September to early October, the weather is generally pleasant and the island is less crowded, making it ideal for walking and swimming. July and August bring hot days and a lively summer atmosphere, but also more visitors and higher demand for accommodation. In spring and autumn, check the timetables for transport and services, as they may be reduced.
Where to eat
In the port and the alleys of Poros town, you’ll find tavernas and restaurants where you can try fish, seafood, and traditional Greek dishes. For dinner with a view, look for a table by the waterfront; in the Askeli and Neorio areas there are more options, especially in the summer months. In high season, it’s worth booking, especially for the most popular restaurants.
Quick tips
- 01Check the Galatas–Poros ferry times before departure, especially out of season.
- 02Bring comfortable shoes: the old town has hills, steps, and sloping streets.
- 03In summer, book accommodation and restaurants in advance, especially on weekends.
- 04For beaches farther from the port, ask about the bus service or consider a taxi or a rental vehicle.
Wake up in the right place.
