3 days / 2 nights · Beaches, villages, nature, viewpoints
The itinerary begins between the historic center of Lefkada and the eastern coast, including a nature walk at the Nidri waterfalls. The second day is dedicated to the northwestern coast, with the village of Agios Nikitas and Kathisma beach. The third day explores the southern peninsula and the famous beaches of Egremni and Porto Katsiki, ending at Cape Lefkatas and Vasiliki. A rental car offers the greatest flexibility, especially for reaching the western beaches; it is possible to keep the same base for both nights.
Day 1 · Walking · 24.6 km · 295 min · Source: Mapbox · walking
Discover Lefkada’s historic sights and head to the east coast for a walk among the waterfalls and Nidri’s waterfront.
10:00
Castle of Agia Mavra
Reach the castle at the entrance to the town by car or taxi and set aside about 45–60 minutes for the walls and interior spaces, if accessible. The Venetian fortress stands beside the channel and offers views of the connection between the island and the mainland; opening hours for some areas may vary.
Check on site for opening hours and any ticket: allow approximately €0–5.
11:15
Walk through the center of Lefkada
Park outside the narrowest streets and explore Lefkada Town’s center on foot for about 1–1.5 hours. Admire the colorful facades, churches, and shopping streets; stop for a coffee in a square, with an estimated cost of €3–6.
The central streets are most pleasant in the morning, before the hottest hours.
12:45
Lunch in the center
Choose a taverna or Greek restaurant between the center and the seafront. For a simple meal with a main course and a drink, budget around €12–22 per person; ask whether the fish is sold by weight.
In high season, it may be useful to book ahead or have lunch early.
14:15
Faneromeni Monastery
Drive to the monastery in about 10–15 minutes from the center and take your time visiting the complex, courtyard, and church, following visitor guidelines. The stop usually takes 45–60 minutes and also offers views over the lagoon and the coast.
Wear respectful clothing; visiting hours may change and admission is generally free.
15:45
Transfer to Nidri and promenade walk
Drive toward Nidri along the eastern coast: the trip is about 25 km and usually takes 35–45 minutes, depending on traffic. After check-in or a break, stroll along the waterfront and take in the harbor, from where boat excursions depart.
For an ice cream or a drink, budget about €3–7; parking can be limited around midday.
17:15
Nydri Waterfalls
From the parking area near the trail, continue on foot to the waterfalls: allow about 30–45 minutes for the round trip, plus time spent there. The path is rocky in places and the water flow varies greatly by season; approach only where the ground is safe.
Closed-toe shoes with good grip are preferable to flip-flops. Generally free access; check the trail conditions.
19:30
Dinner in Nidri
Return to Nidri and choose a taverna on the seafront or on the streets just inland. A dinner with a shared starter, main course, and drink costs approximately €18–30 per person.
If you are staying in Lefkada Town instead of Nidri, allow about 35–45 minutes of driving for the return trip.
Focus on the northwestern coast, alternating the intimate character of Agios Nikitas with the views and sea of Kathisma.
09:00
Transfer to Agios Nikitas
Leave after breakfast and drive to Agios Nikitas: from Nidri the route is about 35 km and can take 50–65 minutes, as the road crosses the interior. Park in the designated areas before entering the village’s pedestrian streets.
In high season, leave early: parking spaces near the village fill up quickly.
10:15
Agios Nikitas
Spend about an hour in the village, strolling among the traditional houses, small shops, and the road that slopes down toward the sea. It’s a good stop for a coffee or a late breakfast, with an estimated cost of €4–9 per person.
The streets are narrow and pedestrian-only: leave your car in the outer parking areas.
11:30
Free time on the village beach
Walk to Agios Nikitas beach and enjoy a swim or some time on the shore, keeping in mind that space can be limited at peak hours. If the sea and services are operating, ask locally about the possible boat connection to Milos Beach; availability and price vary.
Bring water and sunscreen: natural shade is limited.
13:15
Lunch in Agios Nikitas
Stop at a village taverna before continuing south by car. A casual lunch with salad, main course, and a drink costs around €15–25 per person; alternatively, you can buy a light meal to take to the beach.
Take your time to find parking and get back on the road.
15:00
Kathisma Beach
Reach Kathisma in about 10–15 minutes by car and choose either a free spot or a beach club. This long beach is suitable for swimming and relaxing, but the sea can become rough and deep quickly: check conditions before going into the water.
Access to the beach is free; sun loungers and an umbrella, if available, may cost around €15–35 for the pair.
18:00
Scenic viewpoint and coastal break
Stay around Kathisma to enjoy the late-afternoon light and take in the coast from above, without stopping on the roadway or in unauthorized spots. A drink or snack at nearby venues costs roughly €5–12.
Sunset is very popular: do not leave valuables in the car.
19:15
Dinner and return to base
Have dinner in Agios Nikitas or at a place along the road, then head back to base carefully: allow about 50–65 minutes for Nidri. A tavern dinner is typically €18–30 per person, excluding any fish dishes priced by weight.
The coastal roads are winding and poorly lit in some sections: avoid rushing on the way back.
Visit the great beaches of the southwestern coast and end between the Lefkatas promontory and the port of Vasiliki.
07:30
Departure and packed breakfast
Leave early from your base: for Egremni, allow about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Nidri, but travel time can increase on winding roads and in case of traffic. Have breakfast before leaving or bring water and a snack, because services on remote beaches are not always available.
Refuel and check fuel, tires, and road directions before heading into the peninsula.
09:00
Egremni Beach
Park in the designated areas and check on site which beach access is usable. The walk down may involve a long staircase, and the return is demanding in the sun: allow at least 2–2,5 hours for the descent, swimming, and climb back up.
Access points, steps, and boat connections can change: check local conditions before setting off. Bring water and suitable footwear.
12:00
Transfer to Porto Katsiki
Reach Porto Katsiki in about 20–30 minutes by car, depending on traffic and road conditions. From the parking area, head down to the shoreline via the steps: allow time for a swim and cliff views, paying attention to waves and pebbles.
Parking and facilities may be paid or seasonal: budget roughly €5–10 for parking, if required.
14:30
Lunch break and relaxation at Porto Katsiki
Arrange a light packed lunch or use the food options available in season. Allow about €8–18 for a simple meal; the beach is pebbly and offers little natural shade, so an umbrella and a good supply of water are especially useful.
Before swimming, observe the sea conditions and follow any safety instructions.
16:00
Cape Lefkatas Lighthouse
Continue by car to the southern promontory, with an approximate drive of 25–35 minutes from Porto Katsiki. Stop in the accessible area and admire the lighthouse and cliff panoramas; stay in safe areas and do not cross barriers or unstable edges.
Services are not always available on the headland; bring water with you and don’t count on visiting the lighthouse interior.
18:00
Vasiliki and a stroll along the harbor
Reach Vasiliki in about 30–40 minutes and take a walk along the harbor, watching the boats and the life of the village. If time allows, enjoy a short break by the waterfront before dinner; for a coffee or a drink, budget €3–7.
Vasiliki is also a water sports hub: the wind can be strong and sea conditions can change quickly.
19:15
Dinner in Vasiliki
End the itinerary in a harbor or town-center taverna, with local cuisine and fish when available. Plan on roughly €18–32 per person; to get back to Nidri, allow about 40–50 minutes of driving, or 45–60 minutes to Lefkada Town.
If you need to leave early the next day, consider an early dinner and drive carefully after dark.
