Day 1 – Port, Chorio and the Goupa coast

10:00–20:00 Easy walks

Get your bearings on the island and discover its inhabited center, between the port, narrow lanes, and maritime traditions.

10:00

Psathi

Start at the port, the arrival point for ferry connections, and take in the small waterfront before heading toward Chorio. The walk to the village takes about 20–30 minutes, depending on the route and the heat; budget around 1–2 € for a drink or a simple stop.

If you arrive by ferry, check connections and timetables in advance on official channels; keep water and essential luggage with you for the walk.

11:00

Chorio and the Venetian Kastro

Walk to the heart of Chorio and take your time through the narrow lanes of the Kastro, pausing to notice the passageways, courtyards, and traditional architecture. Allow 1.5–2 hours for the visit and a lunch break nearby: a casual meal can cost roughly €12–25 per person.

The alleys can be uneven and steep; for any visits to cultural or monument sites, check the official information first.

16:00

Goupa (fishing village)

From Chorio, reach Goupa with a walk of about 20–30 minutes, or by a short local transfer if you prefer to limit the walking. Explore the small coastal settlement and the syrmata, the ancient boat shelters carved into the rock; allow 1–1.5 hours and about €0–5 for a stop, excluding any food or drinks.

Respect private spaces and do not enter the shelters; for the walk back, bring a light if you plan to stay until evening.

Day 2 – Prassa, the inland area of Skiadi and sunset at Mavrospilia

08:30–21:00 Active, with transfers

Alternate a swim on the eastern coast with a walk inland, then end on the western coast.

08:30

Prassa Beach

Reach Prassa by local transport or a rental vehicle: the distances are short, but road conditions and transport availability can vary. Spend about 2–3 hours at the beach and bring water, sunscreen, and everything you need; beach access is usually free, while any services or refreshments may cost around €5–20.

Check the road conditions, wind, and any services available on site before you set off.

12:30

Skiadi (the mushroom rock)

After the transfer to the trailhead, set out on foot to the distinctive rock formation: allow roughly 30–45 minutes each way, plus time to enjoy the scenery and return. The route can be exposed to the sun and the ground uneven; bring water, closed shoes, and allow about €0–5 for incidental expenses, excluding transport.

There is no ticket indicated for the hike; check trail conditions locally and do not go near unstable edges.

18:30

Mavrospilia (sunset beach)

Head on to the western coast and reach Mavrospilia in time for a beach walk and the sunset light. Allow 1.5–2 hours, including the transfer from the trail; beach access is generally free, and a simple dinner or snack may cost about €10–25 per person.

Sunset time changes throughout the year: check the forecast for the day and plan to return before dark.

Day 3 – Aliki Bay and archaeology in the village

09:30–16:30 Relaxed

Finish with a morning by the sea on the southern coast and a cultural visit to Chorio.

09:30

Aliki Beach

Get to Aliki with a short transfer from Chorio and spend the morning between the beach and the coastal scenery. Set aside about 2–3 hours; access is generally free, while breakfast or a drink may cost around €4–12 per person. If the sea is rough, assess conditions before going in.

Bring water and sunscreen; do not assume there will be facilities or natural shade.

13:30

Kimolos Archaeological Museum

Head back to Chorio to visit the museum and delve into the island’s history through the artifacts on display. Plan for about 45–75 minutes and consider an indicative admission cost of €0–5; check the official website or updated institutional channels for opening times, tickets, and any changes before visiting.

Its location in the village makes it easy to combine with a lunch break or a final stroll through the narrow lanes.

Practical tips

  • In summer, bring plenty of water, a hat, and sunscreen, especially for the Skiadi trail and the beaches with little shade.
  • For secondary roads and transfers to the beaches, check locally about road surface, accessibility, and vehicle availability before setting out.
  • Check ferry connections and wind conditions: they can affect travel and time spent on the beach.
  • For the museum and any seasonal services, verify opening hours, access, and costs in advance through official channels.
