Day 1 – From Hydra Port to the Bays of Dokos

10:00–21:00 Active, with boat transfers

Discover the port and the nearby coastline, dedicating the afternoon to a sea excursion to Dokos.

10:00

Hydra Port

Start at the port, taking in the outline of the amphitheater of stone houses, the piers, and the moored boats. Spend about an hour walking along the waterfront and the streets just behind it; the center is explored on foot, since vehicle traffic is heavily restricted on the island. A stroll has no cost; budget around 3–8 € for a coffee or a drink.

If you haven’t already arranged your trip to Dokos, check in here with the boating operators and ask about the duration, boarding point, equipment, and cancellation terms.

11:30

Mandraki Beach

Reach Mandraki Beach on foot from the port, allowing about 25–35 minutes along the coast, or check whether a boat transfer is available. Set aside about two hours to swim and relax: bring water, sunscreen, and shoes suitable for the type of beach access. The walk is free; a transfer or beach service may cost approximately 5–20 € or more, depending on the service and the season.

To avoid missing the afternoon departure, agree in advance on the meeting point and time, and factor in the time needed to get back to the port.

14:00

Dokos Island (boat excursion)

Return to the port and leave on a booked excursion to Dokos; the crossing can take about 30–60 minutes each way, depending on the boat and the sea. Allow several hours for the crossing, the stop in the bay, and the return, with a packed lunch and water on board: services on the island are very limited. Shared or private outings can range roughly from 40–150 € per person or more; check with the operator what is included and confirm the return time, scheduled for the evening.

The route and the possibility of disembarking depend on the weather and sea conditions. Check the conditions and the operator’s latest updates, and for any tickets or access, consult the official sources available.

Day 2 – The Beaches of the Southern Coast

10:00–21:00 Relaxed, with boat transfers

Exploring two beaches on Hydra by alternating sea transfers, swimming, and breaks without unnecessary returns to town.

10:00

Bisti Beach

From Hydra port, reach Bisti by taxi boat or a coastal connection: allow roughly 20–40 minutes of sailing, depending on the service and sea conditions, and about 15–30 € per person round trip, to be confirmed with the operator. Spend late morning swimming and exploring the small cove; the seabed can be rocky or pebbly, so sea shoes are useful. For the lunch break, bring water and a snack or check in advance which services are available; budget around 5–15 € per person for a simple meal.

Agree in advance on the pickup point and time before disembarking; availability and connections may vary with the weather.

15:00

Agios Nikolaos Beach

Continue to Agios Nikolaos on a coastal leg arranged with the boatman; if a direct connection is not available, organize the transfer via port before leaving Bisti. The transfer can take roughly 10–30 minutes by boat, depending on the route, and cost about 10–25 € per person for the leg: ask for the full price before boarding. Set aside the afternoon for swimming and relaxing on the shore, taking in the shape of the coastline; bring everything you need for the stay, without relying on guaranteed services. Return to the port on a boat arranged in advance, roughly between 18:00 and 19:00, and use the remaining time for dinner or a stroll along the waterfront, with an estimated cost of 15–30 € for a meal.

Check the official website or contact local operators directly for boat schedules and any updated fares.

Day 3 – The eastern coast and Zourva

10:00–21:00 Slow excursion, with sea transfer

Reach the two places in Zourva safely, taking time to enjoy the scenery and checking access conditions on site.

11:00

Zourva Lighthouse

Depart from Hydra port on a taxi boat or a prearranged boat; allow roughly 45–75 minutes of sailing, varying according to the boat and sea conditions. Spend about 45 minutes observing the lighthouse and the rocky coastline, without assuming that landing or access to the structure is allowed. The private transfer can cost approximately €120–€250 for the boat, to be confirmed before departure.

With rough seas, landing may not be possible: agree on an alternative plan and do not approach the rocks without the crew’s instructions.

14:00

Panagia Zourvas Monastery

Continue to the monastery, checking with the crew the landing point and any walking section: uneven ground and local conditions can make access challenging. Allow around 60–90 minutes for an exterior visit and to appreciate the relationship between the building and the secluded landscape; entry should not be taken for granted. Budget roughly €0–€10 for any contributions or local expenses, in addition to the boat cost, and find out in advance about accessibility, permits, and possible tickets.

Bring water, shoes with good grip, and sunscreen; check any visiting arrangements with local sources before you go.

Day 4 – From the inland trail to the port’s memories

10:00–21:00 Moderate, with a challenging ascent

Reach the monastery on a scenic walk and end the day in Hydra’s old town.

10:00

Agia Efpraxia Monastery

From Hydra’s port, follow the uphill trails inland on foot: allow about 60–90 minutes to reach the monastery, depending on the route you choose and your pace, and at least 45–60 minutes for the return trip. Along the way, take in the terraced hillsides, Mediterranean vegetation, and views over the gulf; once there, visit the accessible areas discreetly, remembering that this is a religious site and entry may be subject to restrictions. The walk has no transport cost; bring water and budget an estimated 2–5 € for a drink or snack when you get back to town.

Check in advance for any visiting arrangements and access rules through official channels or local information points. Wear hiking shoes, a hat, and respectful clothing; avoid the climb during the hottest hours.

15:30

Old Rafalias Pharmacy

After returning to the port, walk to the old town in about 10–15 minutes and spend 30–45 minutes at the pharmacy, known for its historic furnishings and the continuity of its family tradition. If access is permitted, look closely at the furniture, packaging, and period details, without photographing or touching objects unless authorized; entry may be free, while any purchases depend on what products are available. After the visit, leave time for a break and dinner in the old town or near the port: expect roughly 15–30 € per person for a simple meal, excluding or including drinks depending on your choice.

Check the latest information and any access rules in advance on the pharmacy’s official channels before visiting. The remaining time until evening is set aside for breaks and meals, with no further stops planned.

Day 5 – Through the lanes of Kiafa and along the Avlaki coast

10:00–21:00 Easy walks, with climbs and pauses

Discover the historic neighborhood above the port and end the day with a seaside stop on the Avlaki coast.

10:00

Upper Kiafa district

Spend about two hours exploring Kiafa on foot, with its stone alleys and stairways: the highest and oldest part of the settlement. Take it slowly and notice the house facades, covered passages, and glimpses toward the rooftops and the port. From the waterfront, you can reach the area with a walk uphill of about 15–25 minutes, depending on your starting point and pace; no cars circulate in the historic center. Access to the district is free; budget around 3–8 EUR for a drink or a short break, and check official channels for any information about places to visit along the route.

The stairways can be steep and uneven: bring water and shoes with good grip. Between 12:00 and 14:30, plan a free lunch break in town, without adding any detours.

15:30

Avlaki Beach

Head back toward the harbor and continue on foot along the coast to Avlaki: allow around 15–25 minutes from the center, depending on the route and stops. The shoreline here is rocky, so you can swim, sunbathe on the rocks, or pause to watch the sea; allow at least two hours and carefully assess access to the water based on the sea conditions. The stop along the coast is generally free; for rentals or services, if available, budget roughly 5–15 EUR and check on site or through official sources.

Bring reef shoes, a towel, and water: the surfaces are rocky and nearby services may be limited. Keep the stop until 21:00 as flexible time for relaxing and walking back.

Day 6 – From the inland area to the coast of Limnioniza

07:00–20:00 Challenging trek

Reach the rural area of Episkopi and continue along the trails toward Limnioniza Bay, arranging your return before setting out.

09:00

Rural settlement of Episkopi

Reach Episkopi from Hydra Port on foot, following a route verified on site: the time can vary significantly depending on the chosen path and pace, so set out early and allow roughly 1.5–2.5 hours of walking. Spend about 45–60 minutes taking in the rural landscape and resting in the shade, if available; do not count on shops or supply points along the way. Access on foot usually does not require a ticket; budget around 5–10 € for water and small supplies bought before leaving the harbor.

Before setting off, ask a local establishment for up-to-date directions and download an offline-usable map; bring hiking shoes and at least 1.5–2 liters of water per person.

11:00

Trail to Limnioniza Bay

Continue toward Limnioniza only after confirming that the pedestrian connection from Episkopi is passable: direction, surface, and duration can change, so do not rely on generic directions. Set aside several hours for the crossing and the return, including a beach stop to rest and have a packed lunch; the exposed section can be tiring in the heat of the day. The trail has no entrance fee, while any organized transfer by sea or along another route must be arranged and priced on site; allow roughly 15–40 € or more per person, depending on the service and conditions.

Set a cut-off time for turning back and check before departure whether a return transfer exists: do not assume that taxi boats or services on the bay are available.

Day 7 – From Kamini to Hydra's historic center

10:00–21:00 Easy walks, with breaks

Explore Kamini’s coast and end the day among the religious and artistic treasures of Hydra Port.

10:00

Kamini Castle

From Hydra Port, walk to Kamini along the coastal path: allow about 25–35 minutes, with stretches exposed to the sun and uneven paving. Use the indicated point as a reference to explore the area and observe the coast and any fortified structures from the outside; access to buildings or private property should not be assumed. Set aside about an hour for the walk, then take a break for water or coffee, roughly €2–6.

Before approaching any structures or land, check on site that passage is allowed; comfortable shoes and a hat are useful.

15:00

Ecclesiastical and Byzantine Museum

Head back toward Hydra Port on foot along the coast, allowing about 25–35 minutes, and reach the museum in the area of the Church of the Assumption complex. Allow 45–75 minutes for the visit and to take your time observing the liturgical objects and traces of local religious tradition; as a reference, expect a possible admission fee of about €0–5, to be confirmed. Then leave time for a stroll around the harbor and dinner nearby, roughly €15–35 per person.

Check the official website or ask at the museum for opening hours, visiting conditions, and any ticket price before planning your day.
