Day 1 – Historic center and market flavors

09:30–17:30 Urban walks with breaks

Explore the main historical sights in the center and sample local cuisine at the market.

09:30

Guadalajara Cathedral

Set aside about an hour for the cathedral and the surrounding square, taking in the towers, the facades, and the contrast among the historic buildings downtown. The exterior visit is free; for any indoor areas or celebrations, please follow the on-site instructions. From downtown, you can continue on foot to the next stop in about 10–15 minutes.

For opening hours and any restrictions related to religious services, check the official information.

11:00

Hospicio Cabañas

Allow about 1.5–2 hours to visit the former welfare complex, now a museum, and appreciate its courtyards, architecture, and mural works by José Clemente Orozco. Reach it on foot from the cathedral or with a short taxi or rideshare trip. Budget roughly 100–200 MXN for admission, to be confirmed on the official website along with exhibitions and availability.

If you want to visit the galleries at a leisurely pace, don’t schedule the visit for the last part of the day.

13:30

Mercado Libertad (San Juan de Dios)

From Hospicio Cabañas, you can reach the market in just a few minutes on foot. Set aside 1.5–2 hours to browse stalls selling crafts, clothing, and food products, then stop for an informal lunch: a simple meal can cost roughly 80–200 MXN. Entry is generally free, while purchases and food are paid directly to the vendors.

Bring small bills and agree on the price before buying or ordering.

Day 2 – Crafts and street life in Tlaquepaque

10:00–19:00 A relaxed day of strolling and stops

Discovering Tlaquepaque’s workshops and atmosphere without adding transfers to other parts of the city.

10:00

Tlaquepaque (Andador Independencia)

Reach Tlaquepaque from downtown Guadalajara by taxi or rideshare, allowing about 25–45 minutes depending on traffic; alternatively, consider public transport, checking the route and updated travel times. Spend 2–3 hours on Andador Independencia, among colorful facades, galleries, and workshops selling ceramics, glass, and other handmade goods. Walking is free; for purchases, prices vary depending on materials, size, and craftsmanship.

For fragile items, ask the shop whether it offers travel-suitable packaging.

13:30

El Parian

Reach El Parian on foot from Andador Independencia in just a few minutes and take a lunch break. The square is surrounded by restaurants and arcades: plan for about 1–2 hours to eat and soak up the atmosphere, with a meal typically in the 180–400 MXN range, depending on your choice and drinks. Access to the square does not require a ticket; music and entertainment may depend on the day and the venue.

Ask for the menu and prices before ordering, especially for drinks and live-music venues.

Day 3 – Zapopan and the Tequila excursion

07:30–20:30 Intense day with an out-of-town transfer

Visit the Basilica of Zapopan and explore the center of Tequila and a distillery, arranging transportation in advance.

07:30

Basilica of Zapopan

Set aside about 45–60 minutes for the basilica and the square, taking in the façade, the accessible interior areas, and the setting in central Zapopan. Entry to the basilica is free; be discreet if services or religious activities are taking place. Before heading to Tequila, meet at the agreed location with your driver or tour: from the sanctuary, it’s not wise to assume there will be a convenient direct connection.

Check the pickup point in advance and allow extra time for morning traffic.

11:00

Tequila Town

The trip from Zapopan to Tequila can take about 1.5–2 hours by car, not counting traffic and stops; a private transfer or organized excursion helps reduce logistical hassles. Spend about an hour in the center, around the square and the streets near the distillery, with an informal lunch break that may cost roughly 120–300 MXN. Walking around the center is free; purchases and tastings are extra.

If you’re traveling with a tour, confirm before departure how much time is planned for the center and for lunch.

13:00

La Rojeña Distillery (Jose Cuervo)

Join a guided tour to learn about the stages of tequila production and the distillery spaces; duration, content, and tastings depend on the selected tour. Expect roughly 300–600 MXN for a visit, but check availability, conditions, and the price on the official website before booking. At the end, plan your return to Guadalajara with the arranged transport: the trip can take about 1.5–2 hours or more depending on traffic.

Book in advance and choose a package with transfer included if you don’t have your own vehicle; if you take part in a tasting, do not drive.
