ERMIONIDA · ITINERARY

Ermionida (Argolida, Peloponnisos, Greece) in 3 days – Complete itinerary

3 days / 2 nights · Villages, archaeology, bays, local cuisine

The itinerary explores Ermionida by area: the first day is dedicated to Ermioni and its surroundings, the second to the coast of Porto Heli and the remains of ancient Halieis, and the third to the villages of Kranidi and Koilada. Distances are short, but a car offers greater flexibility, especially for reaching beaches and scenic viewpoints. The visit to Franchthi Cave is planned by boat from Koilada, only if an excursion is available and sea conditions are favorable. Schedules, access, and fees may change depending on the season.

Day 1 – Ermioni between the harbor, pine grove, and monastery

10:00–21:00 Easy walks and short transfers

Discover Ermioni’s maritime character and its main historic sights without going too far from town.

10:00

Walk to Ermioni harbor

Start from the seafront and the harbor, among fishing boats, cafés, and views over the Gulf of Argolis. Set aside about an hour for the walk and a coffee: budget roughly 3–6 €.

In the morning, the harbor is quieter and the temperatures are often more pleasant.

11:15

Old alley and Taxiarches Church

Explore the old town on foot, climbing toward Taxiarches Church and taking in the traditional houses and stone details. The exterior visit is free; for religious buildings, respect any services and dress code requested.

The streets can be steep and unevenly paved: comfortable shoes are best.

12:15

Bisti Forest

Head to the wooded Bisti peninsula, linked to the center by a short walk, and follow the trails among pine trees, ancient remains, and sea views. The visit is free and takes about 60–90 minutes, depending on how many stops you make.

Bring water and sun protection: there is no continuous shade along the coast.

13:45

Lunch on the waterfront

Head back toward the harbor for a leisurely lunch, choosing a taverna serving fish, salads, or daily specials. A simple meal typically costs around 15–25 € per person, drinks excluded or included depending on the place.

Ask the price of fish sold by weight before ordering.

16:00

Monastery of Agioi Anargyroi

To reach the monastery, located outside the center, allow about 10–15 minutes by car or taxi each way; on foot, the route is more demanding. Visit the complex discreetly and check on site whether access to the interior spaces is possible, as it may depend on religious hours; any donation is optional.

If you don’t have a car, arrange your return to the village in advance.

18:30

Return to Ermioni and evening stroll

Head back to the harbor for a sunset walk and a stop at one of the waterfront cafés. For an aperitif or dessert, allow around 5–10 €; dinner at a taverna typically runs about 18–30 € per person.

The late-afternoon light enhances the view toward the Bisti peninsula.

Day 2 – Porto Heli, Halieis, and the southern bays

09:30–20:30 Day by car with swimming stops

Combine the history of ancient Halieis with the coastal scenery between Porto Heli, Ververonda, and Agios Emilianos.

09:30

Porto Heli and a walk along the harbor

Spend the morning at the harbor and seafront, taking in the bay and the moored boats. The center can be explored on foot and parking is free; a coffee costs on average 3–6 €.

If driving, check the parking signs on the central streets.

10:45

Ververonda Lagoon

Drive to Ververonda Lagoon, just a few minutes from the center, for a scenic stop and a short walk along the accessible sections. The area is free to enter, but not all shores are equipped or suitable for swimming.

Respect the vegetation and do not leave litter behind: this is a natural environment.

12:00

Archaeological Site of Halieis

Head to the site of ancient Halieis, on the coast south of Porto Heli, and take in the archaeological remains and the connection between the settlement and the sea. Allow about an hour; access and any ticket depend on opening conditions, so check on site before setting off.

The site may have limited facilities: bring water and a hat.

13:30

Lunch in Porto Heli

Head back to the center or the waterfront for lunch, choosing a fish taverna or a traditional dish. Expect to spend about €15–28 per person for a full meal, with variations for fresh fish.

In high season, it may be useful to book ahead or have an earlier lunch.

15:30

Stop at Hinitsa Beach

Drive to Hinitsa Beach and set aside a couple of hours for a swim or some relaxation on the coast. Beach access is generally free; sun loungers and an umbrella, if available, can cost about €10–25 per couple.

Facilities and services vary depending on the season.

18:15

Sunset in Agios Emilianos

End the scenic part of the day in the Agios Emilianos area, reachable by car from Hinitsa in about 10–15 minutes. Choose an accessible public spot to admire the sea, then return to Porto Heli for dinner; budget €18–30 per person.

Many properties in the area are private: do not cross gates or marked entrances.

Day 3

Kranidi, Koilada and the Franchthi Cave

09:00–19:30 Villages and an excursion subject to sea conditions

Explore the hinterland of Hermionida and the village of Koilada, with an optional excursion to the prehistoric Franchthi Cave.

09:00

Walk through the center of Kranidi

Spend the first part of the morning in Kranidi, among narrow lanes, stone buildings, and views of the town. A self-guided walk is free; for breakfast or coffee, budget roughly 4–8 €.

Setting off early helps you avoid the heat, especially in the summer months.

10:30

Transfer to Koilada

Reach Koilada by car in about 15–20 minutes, following the local road toward the coast. A taxi ride may cost roughly 15–25 € per trip, depending on availability and the fare.

Local buses can be infrequent: check the timetable in advance.

11:00

Koilada port and waterfront

Stroll along the fishing harbor and take in the boats and tavernas overlooking the bay. The visit is free and gives you a good chance to ask local operators about sea excursions.

Check first whether the service to Franchthi is running that day and how long it lasts.

12:00

Excursion to Franchthi Cave

If the sea, weather, and availability allow, reach the cave by boat with a local operator; the excursion may take about 1.5–2.5 hours in total. The cost is roughly 20–45 € per person, but it varies according to duration, group size, and season; land access may require a demanding route.

Do not set off without agreeing on boarding, return, and disembarkation conditions: the coastline can be rocky.

15:00

Lunch in Koilada

Back in the village, choose a taverna by the harbor for a lunch of fish, meze, or Greek dishes. Budget approximately 15–28 € per person; fresh fish can push the bill higher.

If you can’t find an excursion available, use this time slot for a longer lunch and a stroll along the seafront.

17:00

Return and a final stroll in Kranidi

Head back to Kranidi by car, in about 15–20 minutes, and enjoy one last walk through the central streets or a stop at a café. Allow 3–7 € for a drink or dessert; getting back to Ermioni or Porto Heli usually takes about 15–25 minutes by car.

Leave some time in reserve for the return, especially if you need to catch a ferry or continue on to another destination.

  • Rent a car if you want to easily connect Ermioni, Porto Heli, Kranidi and Koilada; check insurance coverage and parking conditions.
  • In summer, bring water, a hat, sunscreen and shoes suitable for trails and rocky surfaces.
  • Confirm on site whether the monastery is open and whether the Halieis site is accessible: opening hours and services may vary.
  • Plan a visit to Franchthi Cave only after checking operators, sea conditions and return arrangements.
