3 days / 2 nights · Beaches, archaeology, village, sea
Three days to discover Elafonissos on an itinerary that combines pale-sand beaches, the town center, and the archaeological area on the coast opposite the island. The first day is devoted to the southern stretch of beaches, while the second combines a stroll through the village with the western coast. The final day crosses the strait to Pounta to see the submerged site of Pavlopetri and reach the islet of Kasela, depending on the sea conditions and transport connections. For getting around locally, it is useful to have a car or scooter; water excursions require caution and respect for the protection rules.

Take your time exploring the southern coastline of Elafonissos, alternating swims with breaks on the sand.
10:00
Simos Beach (Fragos)
Reach the southern coast by car or scooter from the village, allowing about 15–20 minutes on the road and a short walk from the parking area to the beach. Spend 2–3 hours swimming and strolling among the pale sand and dunes: avoid stepping on the fragile vegetation. Access to the beach is usually free; allow for around €0–10 for any parking or services, if available.
Bring water, shade, and footwear for hot sand; check on site for any dune access restrictions.
14:00
Sarakiniko Beach
Continue to Sarakiniko in about 10–15 minutes by car or scooter, or walk along the coast only if the route and the heat allow it. Set aside 2–3 hours to swim and compare the landscape with that of Simos, noting the line of the dunes and the color of the seabed from the shore. A stop at the beach usually does not require a ticket; allow about €0–10 for any services or parking.
A packed lunch between the two stops reduces travel; do not leave litter on the beach.
Get to know the center of Elafonissos and end the day on the island’s western coast.
09:30
Elafonissos Village
Set aside about 1.5 hours for a stroll through the center and along the seafront, between the harbor, the low houses, and local businesses. The village is explored on foot; if you’re staying outside the center, get there by car or scooter and allow about 5–15 minutes for the transfer, depending on location. The walk is free; for a coffee or breakfast, budget around €3–8.
It’s a good chance to buy water and supplies before heading to the beach.
11:30
Agios Spyridon Church
From the port, walk to the small church dedicated to Saint Spyridon, located on the islet connected to the mainland by a short causeway. Allow about 30–45 minutes for the exterior visit, a few photos, and a walk across the footbridge; enter only if the building is accessible and with respect for the place of worship. The visit is usually free; check on site for any access instructions.
Wear appropriate clothing if you find the church open to the public.
13:00
Panagia Beach
From the village, reach Panagia in about 10–15 minutes by car or scooter, then spend the afternoon swimming and taking a walk along the shore. Plan for at least 3 hours, including a lunch break; take in the shape of the coast and the sea from the water’s edge without going too close to any exposed rocky stretches. Access to the beach is free; allow around €0–10 for any services or parking and €8–18 for a simple lunch.
Bring water and sunscreen with you: natural shade can be limited.
Discover the coast opposite Elafonissos and the archaeological and insular landscape of the strait.
09:00
Submerged archaeological site of Pavlopetri
From the Pounta area, reach the stretch of sea associated with the site, allowing for a short walk from the shore and at least 1–2 hours for observation. With calm water and good visibility, the shallow seabed can be explored from the surface with a mask and snorkel: do not touch, step on, or remove artifacts and do not enter the water if conditions are unsafe. Viewing from the shore is free; equipment rental, if available, may cost around €5–15. Before your visit, check the official guidance and any site protection rules.
The sea can reduce visibility: treat the visit as an observation activity, not an archaeological dive.
11:30
Pounta Beach
Head back to the beach for a stop of about 1–2 hours, with time to rest and take in the strait and the outline of Elafonissos. If you are coming from the island, use the ferry between Elafonissos and Pounta and check trips and fares in advance: for one passenger, expect roughly €1–5 one way, while transporting a vehicle may involve an additional cost. The beach is accessible without an entrance fee; budget about €0–10 for any services.
Leave room for boarding and do not plan your day around the last crossing without confirming the timetable.
14:00
Kasela islet
Spend the afternoon on the islet, observing it from the coast or reaching it only with a boat or kayak suited to sea conditions. The excursion may take 1–2 hours including outward trip, stop, and return; ask locally about currents, access, and any possible restrictions before setting off. For a kayak or an organized outing, expect roughly €20–60 per person or rental, depending on duration and package; the service may not always be available.
Do not swim across the strait and do not land on sensitive areas without first checking access.
