How to get around

To explore Dirfys-Messapia, especially the mountain villages and the more secluded beaches, a car is the most practical option. The roads pass through hilly and mountainous areas: drive carefully, especially on narrow and winding stretches. KTEL buses connect some places with Chalkida, but services can be infrequent and vary by season. Check the updated timetables before setting off and do not rely on public transport for evening travel.

When to go

Spring and early autumn are ideal for walks and outdoor activities, thanks to generally mild temperatures. Summer is suitable for those who want to alternate between the sea and the mountains, but on the hottest days it’s best to plan hikes for the morning. In winter, the climate at higher altitudes can be cold and changeable, with possible snowfall on the Dirfys massif: check conditions before setting off.

Where to Eat

The village tavernas are a great choice for sampling home-style Greek cuisine, with meat dishes, cheeses, and local produce. In coastal areas, look for fish and seafood, keeping in mind that availability and menus change with the season.
