How to get around
The center of Craiova is easy to explore on foot, while the local network of buses and trams connects the neighborhoods and main attractions. For timetables, routes, and ticket-purchase options, check the latest information from RAT Craiova. Taxis and ride-hailing apps are convenient, especially in the evening: check the fare or price before you set off. The airport is a short distance from the city and can be reached by taxi or with the connections available at the time of travel.
When to go
Spring and early autumn are the most pleasant times to explore the city, with generally mild temperatures and lovely parks. In summer it can get very hot, while winter is cold and sometimes snowy: bring clothing suitable for the season. December is a lively time thanks to the markets and Christmas lights.
Where to eat
To sample Romanian cuisine, look for traditional restaurants in the center and around the main squares. Dishes worth trying include sarmale (stuffed cabbage rolls), mici (grilled meat rolls), and ciorbă, a soup that is often tangy; for dessert, try papanași. In the busiest places, it’s wise to book ahead, especially on weekends, and check opening hours and menus in advance.
