Getting around
Chalkidona is located northwest of Thessaloniki, along major road connections toward Giannitsa and Edessa. A car is the most convenient way to explore the surrounding area and reach places that are less well served by public transport. To get there from Thessaloniki, you can consider intercity buses, checking updated timetables and stops in advance. In the town center, getting around is generally manageable on foot, but for excursions in the surrounding area it is best to arrange a vehicle.
When to go
Spring and the beginning of autumn are pleasant times to visit Chalkidona and the surrounding plain, with temperatures often milder than in summer. In summer, the heat can be intense, especially in the middle of the day: it is better to plan visits for the morning or toward evening. Winter is cooler and can bring rain; check the forecast before you set off.
