Brandenburg Gate

Symbol of Berlin and of German reunification, this neoclassical gate overlooks Pariser Platz. It is especially striking at sunset and after nightfall. Just a short walk away is the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, a field of stelae to be crossed in silence.

Building

Home to the German Parliament, the combines a historic facade with the famous glass dome designed by Norman Foster. Admission to the dome is free, but advance booking is required.

Museum Island

This museum complex on Museum Island is a UNESCO World Heritage site and brings together some of the city's most important museums. The Pergamonmuseum is completely closed for renovation, with a broad reopening announced for 2027; so devote your time to the Altes Museum, the Neues Museum, and the Alte Nationalgalerie, checking opening times and exhibitions in advance. The Pergamonmuseum. Das Panorama exhibition is a separate venue, not to be confused with the museum.

A long stretch of the Berlin Wall transformed into an open-air art gallery, with murals that have become icons of the city. It can be visited freely while strolling along the Spree.

Berlin Wall Memorial

Along Bernauer Straße, the memorial tells the story of the city's division through remains of the Wall, eyewitness accounts, and outdoor installations. It is a powerful place to understand the history of divided Berlin. To complete the story of the divided city, you can also visit , the former crossing between sectors.

Charlottenburg Palace

Berlin's largest historic residence enchants with baroque halls, manicured gardens, and a regal atmosphere. The gardens are also lovely for a relaxing walk.

A concentrated route among the historic symbols of Mitte: Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, Unter den Linden, and Gendarmenmarkt. The Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Straße remains an alternative for those with more time, not included in the itinerary.

Explore on the map

Three days to alternate between major memorial sites, museum collections, and the atmosphere of Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain. The Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Straße and Prenzlauer Berg remain alternatives, not included in the itinerary.

A week gives you time to explore the neighborhoods without rushing, visit the main museums, and dedicate a day to nearby Potsdam.

Getting around

Berlin is served by an extensive network of U-Bahn, S-Bahn, trams and buses. Tickets cover multiple modes of transport, but you need to choose the correct fare zone and validate the paper ticket before starting your journey. To get around nearby neighborhoods, walking or cycling is often an excellent choice.

When to go

From May to September, the days are long and the parks, markets and outdoor venues bring the city to life. Spring and early autumn offer pleasant temperatures and, often, fewer crowds. Winter is cold, but the Christmas markets and museums still make a visit worthwhile.

Where to eat

To try Berlin specialties like currywurst and döner kebab, look for kiosks and casual eateries, which are very common in the city. Kreuzberg and Neukölln are full of international cuisine, while Prenzlauer Berg offers cozy cafés and restaurants. On weekends, food markets are a great chance to sample a range of specialties.

Quick tips

Book your visit to the Reichstag dome in advance and check for any museum closures before you travel.
Bring a payment card and a small amount of cash with you: in smaller venues, not everyone accepts every payment method.
The city is spread out: group your visits by neighborhood and consider a transport pass if you plan to get around a lot.
