ARGHOS ORESTIKO · ITINERARY

Arghos Orestiko (Kastoria, Western Macedonia, Greece) in 7 days – Complete itinerary

7 days / 6 nights · Byzantine heritage, lakes, villages, nature

Arghos Orestiko is a practical base for exploring the Kastoria region, between Lake Orestiada, the Grammos mountains, and the traditional settlements of Western Macedonia. The itinerary devotes the first days to the town and its immediate surroundings, then suggests separate excursions to Nestorio, Nymfaio, and the Prespa lakes. Distances are short only in the Kastoria area: for Prespa and the mountain stops, it is preferable to have a car and leave early. Opening hours, seasonal schedules, and museum fees may change, so they should be checked again before departure.

Greece uses the euro (€), so there is no need to plan a currency exchange for travelers coming from Italy. Amounts are indicative estimates per person, unless otherwise specified, and may vary depending on season, availability, accommodation category, and opening hours; they are not verified prices. Parking, car insurance, and tolls, if present on the chosen route, may affect the total.

Practical tips

  • For Nestorio, Nymfaio and Prespa, a car offers much more flexibility; check mountain road conditions and fill up before setting out on excursions.
  • Check directly with museums, churches and the Arcturos center for opening days, hours, and access arrangements: in low season they may be reduced.
  • Bring shoes with non-slip soles, water, and a warm layer: the shores can be windy and the mountain villages have cobbled or sloping streets.
  • In the protected areas of Prespa and Grammos, respect trails and signage, do not disturb wildlife, and get local advice before setting out on hikes off the main routes.
