Archaeological Site of Limnaia

The remains of the ancient city of Limnaia are found in the hills above Amfilochia and tell the long story of the region. From the ruins, you can also enjoy views over the gulf.

Amfilochia Castle

The remains of the fortification overlook the town from above and offer an interesting stop for anyone who loves local history. Its position provides a beautiful view of the bay and the outline of the coast.

Amfilochia Promenade

The seafront promenade is the ideal place for a walk among the harbor, cafés, and tavernas overlooking the water. At sunset, the bay is bathed in especially striking colors.

Lake Amvrakia

This freshwater lake, not far from the city, is surrounded by a peaceful rural landscape and is home to a rich variety of birds. It is a pleasant detour for those who want to alternate the coast with a more secluded natural setting.

Lake Ozeros

Getting around

Amfilochia’s center is easy to explore on foot, even though the seafront and nearby streets can be hilly. A car is the most practical choice for exploring the villages and beaches in the area, where public transport links can be limited. The town lies along the national road connecting Agrinio and Arta: check traffic conditions and parking availability, especially in summer. If you’re getting around without a car, check KTEL bus schedules in advance and consider a taxi for local trips.

When to go

Spring and early autumn are ideal for strolling around and visiting the surrounding area in milder temperatures. Summer is perfect for those looking for the sea, but it can be very hot and busier; it’s a good idea to plan excursions during the cooler hours. In winter the climate is generally calmer, but some services and connections may have reduced schedules.

Where to eat

Along the seafront and in the center you’ll find tavernas and eateries where you can try fish, seafood, and Greek dishes. Look out for regional specialties from Aetolia-Acarnania and local products too, and ask what’s fresh or in season. Opening hours may vary outside the summer months: if you have a specific place in mind, it’s best to check first.
