BEFORE YOU GO

A well-planned trip.

Getting around

Agistri is a small island and is easy to get around by combining bus, taxi, and walking. A bus connects the main towns and beaches, but services can be less frequent outside the high season: check the latest schedules locally. For more independence, you can rent a bicycle or scooter, but be careful on the narrow roads and the steep sections in some areas. Between some coastal villages, boat connections are also available, varying according to the season and sea conditions. If you arrive by ferry, check in advance which port is best for your accommodation.

When to Go

Late spring and early autumn are ideal for enjoying the sea and the island, with pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds. In July and August, the days are hot and the beaches are busier, so it’s worth booking accommodation and ferry tickets in advance. In the low season, the atmosphere is quieter, but some services and connections may be reduced.

Where to Eat

In and you’ll find taverns and casual spots where you can sample fish, seafood, and Greek dishes such as salads, grilled vegetables, and grilled specialties. Menus and the day’s catch vary by season; ask what the daily specials are. In summer, especially in the evening, it can be useful to book a table at the most popular restaurants.

Quick tips

  1. Check ferry schedules before you leave and double-check them if there is strong wind or any change of plans.
  2. Bring water, a hat, and sunscreen: on beaches and exposed stretches, shade can be limited.
  3. If you rent a scooter or a bicycle, check the vehicle’s condition and drive carefully on the narrow roads.
  4. Keep some cash on hand for small purchases or places that may not accept card payments.
