BEFORE YOU GO

A well-planned trip.

How to get around

The center of Aghia can be explored comfortably on foot, but to discover the surrounding area it's useful to have a car. The roads connect the town to the villages on Mount Kissavos and to the coast, including the Agiokampos area. Bus connections can be limited or vary by season: check timetables and stops before setting off. For short trips, ask your accommodation in advance whether they can help arrange a taxi.

When to go

Spring and early autumn are pleasant times to visit Aghia and the surrounding area, with generally milder temperatures for walks and excursions. Summer is hot and also suitable for a trip to the coast, but during the middle of the day it's best to stay out of the sun. In winter, the climate can be colder, especially in nearby mountain areas: check conditions if you plan to drive on mountain roads.

Where to eat

In the tavernas and venues in the center, you can try dishes from Greek and Thessalian cuisine, such as grilled meats, cheeses, seasonal vegetables and homemade specialties. To find fresh ingredients, ask which dishes of the day and local specialties are available. Opening hours and days may change in low season, so it's useful to check before heading to a place.

Quick tips

  1. In summer, bring water, a hat and sunscreen, especially if you're getting around on foot.
  2. If you're traveling by bus, check the updated timetables: services may be infrequent.
  3. To visit beaches and villages in the area, consider a car and check road conditions in advance.
  4. Keep some cash with you: not all small businesses may accept cards.
