One destination.
A thousand ways to live it.
Katerini combines the lively atmosphere of a contemporary Greek city with the proximity of beaches, archaeological sites, and mountain scenery. It is an ideal starting point for exploring Pieria and admiring Mount Olympus, between sea and history.
Worth seeing, worth remembering.
Katerini’s seaside resort offers a long, well-equipped beach and a lively promenade full of cafés and tavernas. It is a popular destination for enjoying the Aegean Sea, especially in the summer months.
Amid temple ruins, ancient roads, and the remains of public buildings, the archaeological park tells the story of Dion, an important religious center of ancient Macedonia. The slopes of Mount Olympus provide a dramatic backdrop to the visit.

The museum houses artifacts from ancient Dion, including sculptures, mosaics, and everyday objects. It is a worthwhile visit to deepen your understanding of what you see in the nearby archaeological park.

This medieval fortress dominates the coast from a hill overlooking the Thermaic Gulf. From its walls, there are striking views of the sea and the surroundings of Platamonas.
Set amid the mountain landscape near Litochoro, the monastery is a place of peace and spirituality linked to Orthodox tradition. The visit pairs well with an excursion at the foot of Mount Olympus.

How to get around
The center of Katerini can be easily explored on foot, while to reach the seaside resorts along the coast you can use local buses, checking timetables and frequency depending on the season. The railway station connects the city with Thessaloniki and other destinations along the line, but it is not right in the heart of the center. To explore the villages and natural sites of Pieria, a car offers greater freedom; in summer, it is best to factor in traffic and parking difficulties in the seaside areas. Taxis are useful for short trips, especially in the evening or when you have luggage.
When to go
From June to September, the climate is warm and the coast is in the middle of the beach season, with more services open and larger crowds. May, early June and September are often pleasant for combining sea and sightseeing, avoiding some of the summer heat and crowds. Spring and autumn are also suitable for excursions to Mount Olympus, bearing in mind that weather at higher altitudes can change quickly. In winter, temperatures are cooler and some tourist activities on the coast may have reduced hours.
Where to eat
In the center of Katerini you’ll find tavernas and casual spots where you can sample Greek cuisine, from souvlaki and mezedes to salads and grilled dishes. Along the coast, in places like , you can look for fish tavernas and compare the menus on display before sitting down. For a quick meal, try a pita with gyros or a bougatsa, sweet or savory, often sold in bakeries and cafés. As in many parts of Greece, daily specials and seasonal products can vary from one place to another.
Quick tips
