The center of Zacharo is quite compact and can be explored on foot. To get to the beach, Lake Kaiafas, and the surrounding areas comfortably, a car is the most practical option. The roads connect the town to the coast and the inland areas, but in summer it’s wise to allow extra time for getting around. Check in advance whether bus connections are available, as they may vary depending on the season.
Spring and early autumn are ideal for enjoying the scenery and hiking with milder temperatures. From June to September, the weather is generally suitable for the beach, but July and August are the hottest and busiest months. In spring and after summer, check opening hours for facilities and services, as they may be reduced.
In the center of Zacharo and along the coast, you’ll find taverns and casual spots where you can try Greek dishes, grilled meats, and fish specialties. Look for local products, including olive oil, and ask which ingredients are in season. During peak season, it’s a good idea to book dinner at the most popular places; outside the summer months, check opening hours before you go.
