Day 1 – Pramanta and the monastery carved into the rock

09:00–17:30 Visits and short drives

Discover the cave and the center of Pramanta before heading to Kipina Monastery.

09:00

Anemotrypa Cave

Reach the cave by car from Pramanta in about 10–15 minutes and allow 45–75 minutes for the visit, if access is available. Inside, you can see chambers and limestone formations shaped by water; wear shoes with non-slip soles and bring a light jacket. Admission, if charged, may cost roughly €3–€6 per person: check visiting arrangements, accessibility, and tickets on official channels before setting out.

The visit and times indicated are a suggested itinerary, not a confirmation that it is open.

11:00

Pramanta Square

Return to the village in about 10 minutes and spend an hour in the square, the surrounding streets and the fountain, observing village life and the stone architecture. Plan a break for coffee or a snack at local businesses, with an estimated cost of €3–€8 per person; for lunch, budget around €12–€22. The square is also a practical spot to refill water before continuing.

Allow time for lunch and any photo stops: transfers on mountain roads require caution.

13:30

Kipina Monastery

From Pramanta, allow about 35–50 minutes by car, depending on road conditions, and set aside 45–60 minutes for the exterior visit and accessible areas. The monastery, built against the rock face above a gorge, is known for its spectacular setting and the passage carved through the rock: move carefully and respect any worship spaces. Access may be free or involve a donation; consider €0–€5 per person and check information and visiting conditions through official channels.

Wear sturdy footwear and check in advance for any local guidance on the road and access.

Day 2

Kalarites and the historic trail to Syrrako

09:00–17:30 Mountain trekking, with elevation changes

Walk through the historic landscape between two stone villages, arranging your return trip in advance.

09:00

Kalarites

Reach Kalarites by car, allowing about 45–60 minutes from Pramanta, and leave the vehicle in permitted areas before exploring the pedestrian center. Spend 60–90 minutes wandering the cobbled lanes, stone houses and valley views, taking a short break before the trek. A walk and village visit normally do not have an entrance fee; for coffee or breakfast, allow about €3–€10 per person.

Parking availability may vary: avoid blocking residents’ driveways and passages.

10:30

Kalarites-Syrrako historic trail

Follow the historic route between the two villages, estimating 1.5–2.5 hours of walking for a one-way trip, depending on pace and trail conditions. The path crosses a mountain landscape and offers views of the gorge and slopes; bring water, sun protection and hiking shoes, as the terrain can be uneven and slippery. The walk is free, while a taxi or prearranged transfer to retrieve the car may cost roughly €20–€45 per vehicle: arrange it in advance, without relying on spontaneous rides.

Check trail conditions and the weather; if in doubt, choose a shorter hike and don’t start late.

14:00

Syrrako

Once you arrive in Syrrako, allow 1.5–2 hours to visit the village, wander through its stone alleys, and stop at the viewpoints over the valley. After the trek, plan lunch in a taverna or a break with local products, with an estimated cost of €12–€25 per person. Visiting the village is free; allow time for the arranged transfer to Kalarites or for the return to base.

The route is challenging in hot or rainy conditions: carry water and keep enough daylight in reserve for the return.

Day 3 – Water and stone architecture

09:00–16:30 Short walks and scenic transfers

End the trip among the Katarraktis waterfalls and one of the region’s best-known historic bridges.

09:00

Katarraktis Waterfalls

From Pramanta, allow about 25–40 minutes by car to the Katarraktis area, then follow local signs to the accessible spot and plan 1–2 hours for walking and stops. Take in the waterfalls and the surrounding landscape: water flow can change significantly depending on the season and rainfall. Access to the area is generally free, with an estimated cost of €0–€5 for any parking or services; wear suitable footwear and do not approach the wet edges.

Check trail conditions on site and do not assume access or water flow is guaranteed.

13:00

Plaka Bridge

Continue by car to the bridge, allowing around 45–70 minutes on mountain roads, and spend 45–75 minutes on the visit and photos. The stone bridge spans the Arachthos River and is an impressive example of traditional construction: admire its arch from the permitted path and pay attention to the ground along the banks. The visit is free; budget €0–€5 for any parking costs and around €10–€22 per person for lunch or a stop at a local spot.

Lunch breaks and transfers are included in the overall time for the day; check road conditions before setting off.

Practical tips

  • To visit the villages and reach the trailheads, a car offers greater flexibility; drive slowly on the narrow, winding roads.
  • Check the weather, trail conditions, and local guidance before every hike; bring water, warm layers, and shoes with good grip.
  • For the Kalarites-Syrrako trail, arrange vehicle recovery in advance or plan a return route, without assuming taxis will be available locally.
  • Check official sites or with local operators for access, tickets, and visiting arrangements for the cave and the monastery: the schedule times are suggestions, not confirmed opening hours.
