It is one of the most picturesque squares in Tripoli, surrounded by cafés and green spaces. In the center stands the monument dedicated to Theodoros Kolokotronis, hero of the Greek War of Independence.

TripoliArcadia, Peloponnese · Greece
One destination.
A thousand ways to live it.
In the mountainous heart of the Peloponnese, Tripoli blends the authentic atmosphere of a provincial Greek city with a rich historical heritage. Its squares and museums are an excellent starting point for exploring the important archaeological sites of Arcadia as well.
Worth seeing, worth remembering.
Housed in an elegant neoclassical building, it brings together artifacts that tell the story of Arcadia from antiquity to the Roman era. It is a valuable visit for understanding the archaeological sites scattered throughout the region.
The museum traces the main conflicts in modern Greek history through uniforms, documents, and memorabilia. One important section is dedicated to the War of Independence and the role of Arcadia.
The church, known in Greek as Agios Vasilios, is one of the city's main religious buildings. Its central location makes it an easy stop to combine with a stroll through Tripoli's squares.
This historic theater is a refined example of neoclassical architecture and an important cultural landmark of the city. Its building adds to the elegant character of the center.
A short distance from Tripoli, the archaeological site preserves the remains of the ancient city of Mantineia, including walls, a theater, and traces of the agora. Nearby is also the distinctive church of Agia Fotini.

Getting around
Tripoli’s center is easy to explore on foot, especially around its squares, shops, and cafés. To reach destinations in Arcadia and other parts of the Peloponnese, a car offers greater flexibility; mountain roads may take longer. KTEL buses connect Tripoli with several cities in the region and with Athens, but frequencies and timetables vary. Check departures in advance, especially on weekends and public holidays.
When to go
Spring and early autumn are pleasant times to visit Tripoli and combine the city with excursions into the inland countryside, thanks to the generally mild temperatures. Summer can be hot, while winter is colder than in coastal destinations and may bring snow to the nearby mountainous areas. If you are traveling out of season, check attraction and transport opening times.
Where to eat
In the center, you’ll find traditional tavernas, casual spots, and cafés, especially around the main squares. Look for dishes from Arcadia and the Peloponnese, such as grilled meats, local cheeses, and handmade pasta. For a quieter experience, consider dining early: hours may differ from those in coastal tourist towns. Ask about the daily specials and check in advance whether places are open on public holidays.
Quick tips
- 01Tripoli is inland: bring suitable clothing for cool evenings too, especially in autumn and winter.
- 02If you rent a car, allow extra travel time on mountain roads and check route conditions.
- 03Keep some cash on hand for small purchases or places outside the center; don’t assume everyone accepts cards.
- 04Use Tripoli as a base to explore Arcadia, but check connections and return times in advance.
Wake up in the right place.
