Day 1 – From Livadia to Lethra Beach

09:00–17:00 Walks and a moderate hike

Explore the center of Livadia and walk to a secluded beach, returning before evening.

09:00

Livadia

Spend the first part of the morning at Livadia's harbor and seafront, watching the boats, the curve of the bay, and the houses clustered along the coast. Have breakfast or buy water and supplies in the village shops: as a rough guide, expect €3–7 for a simple breakfast and €4–8 for water and snacks to take with you. Before setting off, ask for updated information on the route to Lethra and its conditions; reaching the trailhead from the center requires a short walk.

Bring at least 1.5–2 liters of water per person, a hat, and shoes with soles suitable for uneven terrain.

11:00

Lethra Beach

From Livadia, follow the trail toward Lethra: allow about 60–90 minutes each way, with times varying depending on trail conditions and your pace. The secluded beach offers a chance to swim and rest; do not rely on services or shade being available, and take all your rubbish back with you. The walk does not involve any transport cost, but allow roughly €4–8 for supplies bought before departure; plan the stop so you can start back in the early afternoon and return to Livadia by 17:00.

Check local directions and trail conditions before setting off; in case of intense heat or an unsafe route, skip the hike.

Day 2 – The historic village and natural history of Tilos

10:00–16:00 Easy walks

Discover the character of Megalo Chorio and learn about the finds that tell the story of the island’s natural past.

10:00

Megalo Chorio

Reach the village from Livadia by local transport, if available, or by taxi: the journey is about 7 km and takes roughly 15–20 minutes; budget around €2–6 per person for the bus or €15–25 for a taxi ride, to be reconfirmed locally. Allow about two hours to wander leisurely through the narrow lanes and traditional houses, taking in the village layout and views over the surrounding hills; wear comfortable shoes, as the ground can be uneven and uphill. For lunch, plan a stop at a village taverna or a simple meal, roughly €12–25 per person, and check availability and prices directly.

If you want to reduce sun exposure, bring water and schedule the climbs for the cooler hours.

13:00

Paleontological Museum

From the center of Megalo Chorio, walk to the museum in about 5–10 minutes, and allow 45–75 minutes to calmly view the exhibits and information about the island’s paleontology, including fossils of the small prehistoric elephants found on Tilos. As a cautious estimate, consider a possible entrance fee of around €0–5 per person: the price and visiting arrangements should be checked before you arrive. After the visit, you can take a break in the village and return to Livadia by local transport or taxi, allowing for variable waiting times.

Check the opening hours, whether booking is required, and the ticket price with an official local source.

Day 3 – From the medieval castle to the sea at Eristos

10:00–21:00 Moderate walks and a beach break

Explore the fortified site above Megalo Chorio and spend the afternoon on the coast at Eristos.

10:00

Knights' Castle

Reach Megalo Chorio and allow about 20–40 minutes to hike up to the castle, depending on your starting point and pace: the section can be steep and rough, so shoes with good grip are essential. Set aside around 60–90 minutes for the remains of the fortification and the views over the village and the island; bring water, as the route is exposed to the sun. Access may not require a ticket, but the conditions and visiting arrangements should be checked with local official sources; to get there by taxi or rental vehicle, consider indicative variable costs, from about €10–30 for a local taxi ride or €25–60 per day for a rental vehicle.

After the visit, plan a lunch break of about 60–90 minutes in Megalo Chorio; check locally for availability and prices at the eateries.

14:00

Eristos Beach

From Megalo Chorio you can reach Eristos in about 15–25 minutes by car, scooter, or taxi, depending on the vehicle and road conditions; budget roughly €10–30 for a taxi transfer, or the cost of rental and fuel. Spend the afternoon swimming, taking a walk along the coast, and enjoying the open landscape of the bay; bring water, sunscreen, and whatever you need for your stay, as services and availability may vary. The beach is generally considered freely accessible, but any services, refreshments, or equipment may have a cost: allow around €0–20 per person, in addition to meals.

Leave enough time to get back before evening and check local guidance on the sea and road conditions on site.

Day 4 – From prehistory to illuminated ruins

10:00–21:00 Easy walks, with a central break

Discover the prehistoric site of Harkadio and visit Mikro Chorio carefully after sunset.

10:00

Harkadio Cave

Reach the cave by car or scooter from Livadia, allowing about 15–20 minutes on the road, and set aside about 45–60 minutes for the visit and the surrounding area. The site is associated with important prehistoric discoveries, including the remains of dwarf elephants: take in the landscape context and stick to the permitted paths, without collecting or moving any materials. Plan for roughly €0–10 for any access costs and check the official website for updated information on visiting and tickets.

Bring water, a hat, and shoes with grippy soles; do not assume that every area is accessible.

20:00

Mikro Chorio (night visit)

From Livadia or the Megalo Chorio area, reach Mikro Chorio by car or scooter; the trip is short, but check road and parking conditions on site. Allow about 45–60 minutes to walk among the visible ruins and viewpoint spots, staying on safe paths: do not enter the abandoned buildings, which may be unstable. Budget roughly €0–10 for any access costs and check official information before visiting; for the return, arrange transport in advance.

Bring a flashlight, move slowly, and do not rely on village lighting or the availability of evening transport.

Day 5 – The monastery and the western coast of Tilos

10:00–21:00 Relaxed, with transfers to plan

Discover the island’s mountainous, spiritual landscape and end the day by the sea on the western coast.

10:00

Monastery of Agios Panteleimonas

From Livadia, reach the monastery by car or taxi, agreeing the fare in advance and checking road conditions; allow about 30–45 minutes of travel and 60–90 minutes for the visit. Spend time on the church, the architectural details, and the view over the dry, mountainous landscape; expect roughly €15–35 per person for the transfer, depending on the vehicle and agreement, plus any offering. For access, visiting rules, and any costs, check the official information before setting out.

Bring water and respectful clothing for visiting a religious place.

15:00

Plaka Beach

After a lunch break and the transfer from the monastery, set aside about 2–3 hours for the beach; prudently allow 30–45 minutes on the road and check the road surface before leaving. Here you can swim and relax while taking in the coastline: bring water, sunscreen, and everything you need, without assuming any beach facilities. Beach access is generally free, but transport and refreshments may add up to around €10–35 per person; check conditions on site and head back to Livadia before dinner.

If you're traveling by taxi, agree the return time in advance as well.

Day 6 – The port and the northwestern coast

10:00–21:00 Relaxed, with car transfers and time for the sea

Discover the small harbor of Agios Antonios and end the day with a swim stop at Skafi.

10:00

Agios Antonios Port

Reach Agios Antonios from Livadia by car or taxi: allow roughly 20–30 minutes, to be confirmed based on the road and conditions on the day. Set aside about an hour to stroll around the port area and take in the boats, the shape of the bay, and the dry inland landscape; the exterior visit does not in itself require a ticket. For lunch, you can stop in the village, budgeting roughly €15–30 per person and checking on site which places are open.

If you don't have a vehicle, ask a hotel or a taxi driver in advance for up-to-date information on connections and the return trip.

14:00

Skafi Beach

Continue to Skafi with the arranged vehicle and check the access point locally: road surface, parking availability, and the final stretch on foot can change, so don't rely on a paved road all the way to the shore. Reserve about 3–4 hours for swimming and relaxing, bringing water and sunscreen; the beach is a naturalistic stop and it's not safe to assume there are services or rentals. Access to the beach usually doesn't involve an entrance fee, while transfer and refreshments can affect your budget; in the evening, head back toward Livadia with some margin and check the route conditions beforehand.

Wear suitable shoes for any rocky sections and take all your rubbish with you.

Day 7 – Between a small chapel and the sea of Tilos

10:00–21:00 Relaxed, with transport by car or scooter

Discover a traditional chapel and end the day with a laid-back pause on the coast.

10:00

Little Church of Panagia Politissa

Spend about 45–60 minutes at the chapel and in the surrounding area: note the simple structure, the religious details visible from the outside, and the landscape of Tilos's hills. To get there, arrange the trip from your accommodation by car or scooter and check local access and road conditions; don't assume interior access is guaranteed for the visit. The stop outside is usually free, while any offering, if one is expected, is voluntary.

Wear respectful clothing if you find the chapel accessible; check any visitor information from local or official sources before setting off.

15:30

Tholos Bay

Reach the bay by car or scooter, allowing roughly 20–40 minutes of transfer depending on your starting point and road conditions; check on site where parking is allowed. Spend the afternoon here swimming, resting, and enjoying the coastline, setting aside about 2–3 hours and bringing water, sunscreen, and anything you need for the beach. Access to the bay is usually free, and you should budget around €0–10 for any refreshments or services, if available; stay until late afternoon light before heading back at your leisure.

Between the two stops, include lunch and the transfer: allow roughly €12–25 per person for a simple meal, varying depending on the place.
