Getting around
Thessaloniki Airport is close to the coastal area, while city buses connect the Thermaikos towns with Thessaloniki: check updated routes and timetables before you set off. Peraia, Neoi Epivates, Agia Triada, and Epanomi are separate places and, to get between them, a car can be handy. Alternatively, you can use taxis or buses, bearing in mind that frequencies may vary depending on the season and the time of day. In the seaside towns, the promenade is easy to explore on foot. If you rent a car, check parking options in advance, especially on summer weekends.
When to go
Spring and early autumn are ideal for strolling along the seafront and exploring the surroundings, with generally milder temperatures. Summer is the best time for the beach, but it can be hot and busier, especially on weekends. In autumn the sea can stay pleasant for a while, while in winter the weather is cooler and rainier, and some activities may have reduced opening hours.
Where to eat
Along the coast you’ll find tavernas and restaurants where you can try fish, seafood, and Greek meze, often with tables overlooking the gulf. Peraia and Neoi Epivates are convenient choices for dinner by the sea; you can also find local cuisine in the other coastal towns. Ask which products are fresh and in season, and check the menu and prices before ordering, especially for fish sold by weight.
