Getting around
Târgu Mureș’s center is fairly compact and easy to explore on foot, especially between Piața Trandafirilor, the Palace of Culture, and the Citadel. To reach more distant neighborhoods, you can use the city buses: check timetables and how to buy tickets at the stops or on local channels, as they may change. Taxis are a practical option; agree on the fare or make sure the meter is running, or book through an app available in the city. The train station and the bus station make it easy to continue your journey to other places in Romania.
When to go
Spring and early autumn are pleasant for strolling and sightseeing, with generally mild temperatures. Summer brings long days, but it can be hot; winter is cold and sometimes snowy, so bring suitable clothing. In any season, check the forecast before you leave and keep in mind that the weather can vary.
Where to eat
Look for restaurants and cafés in the center, especially around Piața Trandafirilor, where it’s easy to find Romanian cuisine and the typical Hungarian influences of Transylvania. Dishes worth trying include hearty soups, sarmale (stuffed cabbage rolls), and grilled specialties; for a sweet snack, look for kürtőskalács. Menus may also be available in Hungarian or English: ask the staff if you have any questions about ingredients.
