The center of Târgoviște is easy to explore on foot, especially between the Princely Court complex, Chindia Tower, and the central streets. To reach more distant neighborhoods, you can use city buses or taxis. The city is linked to Bucharest by trains and buses, but schedules and travel times can vary: check them before you set off. If you’re arriving by car, keep in mind that traffic can increase during rush hour.
Spring and early autumn are generally the most pleasant times to visit the city, with temperatures that are ideal for walks and outdoor sightseeing. In summer, days can be very hot; in winter, cold weather and precipitation can make getting around less convenient. When visiting monuments and museums, check the updated opening hours, as they can change by season.
In the center and along the main commercial streets, you’ll find restaurants, traditional eateries, and cafés serving Romanian cuisine and international dishes. To sample local food, look for specialties such as sarmale, mămăligă, mici, and traditional soups like ciorbă. Menus may not always be available in Italian: a few words of Romanian or a translation app can be helpful. At busier venues, especially on weekends, it’s a good idea to make a reservation.
