Getting around
Suceava’s center is easy to explore on foot, while city buses connect the neighborhoods and some attractions farther away. For getting around town, you can use taxis or ride-hailing services, checking availability locally. The railway station and airport are outside the very heart of the center: consider a taxi or bus and check the schedules in advance. To reach the painted monasteries of Bucovina, it is often more practical to rent a car or book an excursion, since public transport links can be limited.
When to go
From May to September, the days are generally milder and this is the ideal time to visit Suceava and the monasteries of Bucovina. Spring and early autumn often bring pleasant temperatures and fewer visitors. Winter can be cold and snowy, but it offers striking scenery; factor in possible travel disruptions and check road conditions.
Where to eat
In the center and around the citadel, you’ll find restaurants and traditional eateries where you can sample Bucovina cuisine. Look for hearty dishes such as ciorbă, sarmale, mămăligă with cheese and sour cream, and traditional desserts. Some places also serve seasonal specialties and Romanian wines; on weekends, it’s a good idea to book ahead.
