THE PLACES THAT TELL SKYDRA

Worth seeing, worth remembering.

All places on the map ↗

Explore the remains of ancient Pella, capital of the Macedonian kingdom and birthplace of Alexander the Great. Among mosaics, streets, and monumental ruins, you can sense the grandeur of one of the main centers of the Hellenistic world.

The museum houses artifacts found in the excavations of the ancient city, including splendid mosaics and everyday objects. A visit offers a valuable introduction to the history of Pella and completes the exploration of the archaeological site.

In the heart of Edessa, water plunges between rocks and vegetation, creating one of the most striking natural settings in the region. Walkways and viewpoints let you admire the waterfalls and the surrounding landscape up close.

Set in a wooded valley at the foot of Mount Voras, these thermal baths are known for their warm-water pools and natural springs. They are an ideal destination for combining cultural visits with a relaxing break.

BEFORE YOU GO

A well-planned trip.

Getting around

Skydra is a small town and the center can be easily explored on foot. To visit the villages and sites of the Pella region, a car offers more flexibility, especially outside built-up areas. The railway station is on the line connecting Thessaloniki with Florina, but it is best to check timetables and connections in advance. Regional buses can also be useful, with frequencies varying depending on the destination and the day. For local travel, ask on the spot about available services and do not assume you will find taxis in every area.

When to go

Spring and autumn are generally the most pleasant times to visit Skydra and the surrounding area, thanks to the mild temperatures and green countryside. Summer can be very hot, while winter is colder and sometimes rainy. If you're interested in local agricultural production, in summer the area is especially lively for fruit harvesting, but dates vary from year to year.

Where to Eat

In Skydra, you'll find tavernas and casual spots where you can sample the cuisine of Central Macedonia: grilled meats, home-style dishes, cheeses, and savory pies. Menus may feature agricultural products from the surrounding plain, known for its fruit farming. For a more local experience, choose a place frequented by residents and ask what the dishes of the day are. Restaurant opening hours can change with the season.

Quick tips

  1. Check the latest train and bus schedules before you set off: services can be infrequent.
  2. If you want to explore the surrounding area, consider renting a car and plan your stops in advance.
  3. Bring cash with you: in small businesses, card payments may not always be available.
  4. In summer, protect yourself from the sun and bring water, especially when traveling through the countryside.
