How to get around
The car is the most practical way to explore Notia Kynouria and reach the beaches and villages scattered along the coast. The roads are often narrow and winding: allow for longer travel times than the distance might suggest. In summer, parking can be limited in the busiest towns and near the sea. Buses serve some locations, but services can be infrequent; check the updated timetables before setting off. For short trips, ask about taxi availability.
When to go
Spring and early autumn are ideal for visiting the villages and hiking the trails, with generally milder temperatures and fewer crowds. From June to September, the sea takes center stage, but July and August can be very hot and lively. In the low season, some services and venues may keep reduced hours: it is worth checking in advance.
Where to eat
In the tavernas of the coastal towns, look for fish and seafood, while inland you’ll find home-style dishes based on meat, vegetables and local olive oil. Among the specialties to try is Tsakonia eggplant, typical of the area, often served baked or in traditional recipes.
